摘要: A paper based overlay is provided. The overlay has a paper impregnated with a resin composition having an acrylic resin having a glass transition temperature in a range of from about −20° C. to about 40° C. and a resin content from about 15 to about 35 wt. % based on the weight of the overlay. The acrylic composition may include wax in the amount of about 0.005 to about 3.5 wt. % based on the weight of the resin composition. A method of producing the overlay is also provided. The overlay is highly water and abrasion resistant with low volatile content.

摘要: A resin system and methods of making resin system wherein lignosulfonate is added to urea-formaldehyde and melamine-urea-formaldehyde adhesives. Lignosulfonate is added to the resins which improves the performance characteristics of the adhesive while reducing environmental impact by consuming byproducts from other industrial processes. The resin system includes a urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin or melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF), prepared in at least two stages wherein the UF resin or MUF resin has a molar ratio (MR) of total moles formaldehyde to total moles urea plus, if present, the one or more melamine compounds of from about 0.25:1 to about 2.50:1, and wherein one or more lignosulfonate compounds are included in an amount of from about 0.1-30 wt. %, based on a total weight of the resin system, and wherein the resin system has a buffer capacity of 2-400 mL of 0.1 N HCl by the ATV Method for a period of time of at least about 20 days at 25° C.

摘要: An article for indoor or outdoor use having resistance to damage from wear and tear and exposure to weather comprising: a coated overlay comprising an untreated alpha-cellulose core layer which optionally is ink-jet printed with ornamental decors or full area print designs that is saturated with a melamine formaldehyde (MF) resin and a coating layer coated on a top surface of the core layer, said coating layer comprising a polyurethane(meth)acrylate resin; a panel substrate of wood, plywood, or non-wood; a midlayer between the overlay and the substrate, said midlayer is a veneer, paper foil, or medium density overlay (MDO); a backer sheet is a bottom layer attached to a bottom surface of the substrate, wherein the backer sheet and midlayer are optional. The nonprinted regions of the coated overlay on the panel are transparent to visible light.

摘要: A liquid phenolic resin composition for use as a binder for a refractory article, the phenolic resin composition comprising a phenol formaldehyde resin, wherein the phenolic resin composition has a reduced vaporization percentage of phenolic compounds. The phenolic resin composition is used in refractory compositions comprising at least 50 wt. % of one or more refractory aggregate(s), based on a total weight of the refractory composition. There is also disclosed a refractory article, such as a brick, formed into a shape comprising said refractory composition and heating until the phenolic resin composition is at least 20% cured and having a green strength after curing at 170° C. for 5 hours sufficient for handling the solid without falling apart. Ladles for transporting and pouring molten metals can be made with an inner liner formed by stacking at least two bricks along the bottom and sides of a ladle shaped metal outer liner, and then heating the stacked bricks to a temperature sufficient to carbonize the resin thereby forming the inner liner of the ladle.

摘要: A paper based overlay is provided. The acrylic composition may include wax in the amount of about 0.005 to about 3.5 wt. % based on the weight of the resin composition. A method of producing the overlay is also provided. The overlay is highly water and abrasion resistant with low volatile content.
