摘要: The invention relates to an in-situ process for preparing an alkylphenol-aldehyde resin. The process comprises the step of providing a raw alkylphenol composition. The raw alkylphenol composition comprises one or more alkylphenol compounds and at least about 1 wt % phenol. Each alkylphenol compound has one or more alkyl substituents. The raw alkylphenol composition is reacted directly, without pre-purification, with one or more aldehydes to form an in-situ alkylphenol-aldehyde resin. The invention also relates to an in-situ alkylphenol-aldehyde resin formed from the in-situ process, and its use in a tackifier composition and rubber composition. The tackifier composition and rubber composition containing the in-situ alkylphenol-aldehyde resin show, inter alia, improved tack performance.

摘要: Binder compositions are described that include a phenol, a urea compound, formaldehyde, and at least one cyclic urea-dialdehyde compound. The cyclic urea-dialdehyde compound forms crosslinking bonds between polymers of phenol-urea-formaldehyde when the binder composition is cured. Also described are methods of making fiberglass insulation products using the above-described binder compositions. The methods may include contacting the binder composition with glass fibers and forming an amalgam of the binder composition and the glass fibers. The amalgam may be heated to form mats of the glass fibers and binder. The mats may be processed into the fiberglass insulation products.

摘要: An adhesive mixture comprising an organic slurry dispersion for use in the manufacture of wood-based composites is described herein. The adhesive mixture includes an adhesive resin; water; one or more fillers, and an organic slurry dispersion. The organic slurry dispersion includes water; a natural biopolymer insoluble in the water, the natural biopolymer comprising lignocelluloses, lignocellulosic agricultural residue, lignin materials, lignin derivatives or mixtures thereof; and a defoamer. During manufacturing, the components of the organic slurry dispersion are combined and mixed by imparting a high degree of shear and mixing. The adhesive mixture may be applied to wood material for use in manufacturing a wood-based composite product.

摘要: A liquid phenolic resin composition for use as a binder for a refractory article, the phenolic resin composition comprising a phenol formaldehyde resin, wherein the phenolic resin composition has a reduced vaporization percentage of phenolic compounds. The phenolic resin composition is used in refractory compositions comprising at least 50 wt. % of one or more refractory aggregate(s), based on a total weight of the refractory composition. There is also disclosed a refractory article, such as a brick, formed into a shape comprising said refractory composition and heating until the phenolic resin composition is at least 20% cured and having a green strength after curing at 170° C. for 5 hours sufficient for handling the solid without falling apart. Ladles for transporting and pouring molten metals can be made with an inner liner formed by stacking at least two bricks along the bottom and sides of a ladle shaped metal outer liner, and then heating the stacked bricks to a temperature sufficient to carbonize the resin thereby forming the inner liner of the ladle.

摘要: In one embodiment, an alkylphenol copolymer is disclosed wherein the copolymer comprises at least one alkylphenol monomer and the alkylphenol copolymer exhibits the following: an oscillation displacement Θ of greater than 0 at a temperature of −5° C. in a first oscillation temperature sweep and an oscillation displacement Θ in a second oscillation temperature sweep within 25% of the oscillation displacement Θ in the first oscillation temperature sweep at a temperature of −5° C. In a further embodiment, a petroleum composition is disclosed wherein the composition comprises a petroleum source and a macromolecular compound wherein the macromolecular compound exhibits the following: an oscillation displacement Θ of greater than 0 at a temperature of −10° C. in a first oscillation temperature sweep, and an oscillation displacement Θ in a second oscillation temperature sweep within 25% of the oscillation displacement Θ in the first oscillation temperature sweep at a temperature of −10° C.

摘要: Compositions, methods, and resins using alkyl aldehydes and phenols are provided herein. In one embodiment, a composition comprising an alkylphenol resin can be prepared by condensing at least one phenolic monomer selected from the group consisting of phenol, cresol, resorcinol, xylenol, ethyl phenol, alkylresorcinols, and combinations thereof; and at least one alkyl aldehyde having from 5 to 12 carbon atom alkyl groups. The alkylphenol resins of the application are free of octylphenol or nonylphenol monomers. In one embodiment, the alkylphenol resins may be prepared using formaldehyde, and alternatively, in another embodiment, the alkylphenol resins may be prepared without the use of formaldehyde. The process to make these new alternative alkylphenol resins is a cost effective process and easy to scale-up.
