Abstract:
A machine for inserting quilting buttons of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,701,174 includes a male button drive mechanism and a female button drive mechanism in axial alignment with positive and rapid acting button feed means for very rapidly driving a female button part through a pad or the like and driving the male button part into the female button part so as to secure the quilting button in extension through such a pad. The invention is particularly directed to very rapid quilting operations.
Abstract:
A machine for inserting quilting buttons of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,701,174 includes a multiple displacement upper piston mechanism with movable upper button feed means and a dual displacement lower piston mechanism and a movable lower button feed mechanism. Upon an open work bed between the upper and lower mechanisms, a quilt or the like is positioned so that actuation of the machine to pick up button parts and insert them in the quilt causes the two mechanisms to come together on opposite sides of the quilt and for the female button portion to be forced through the quilt, followed by forcing of the male button portion through the female portion. Retraction of the mechanisms leaves the quilting button inserted through the quilt and the mechanisms in condition for another button insertion.
Abstract:
An animal cage provides a rectangular box-like cage structure having a top, bottom, right and left sides, and openable front and back ends, together defining an internal cavity. A movable internal vertical wall is adjustably supported on the structure top, and a movable internal horizontal wall is adjustably supported on one of the structure sides. An animal may be placed in the cage, and the vertical and horizontal inner walls slowly moved to restrict the animal, so that a user may inoculate or otherwise treat the animal safely.
Abstract:
A tufting machine feeds upholstered female and male button parts into drive mechanisms above and below a central table for receiving a cushion to be tufted. A retractable needle drive assembly forms an aperture through a cushion on the table along a drive axis of the machine, and, following retraction, a male button driver moves a male button part into the aperture and holds this button part on the drive axis while an upper drive mechanism drives a female button part onto the male button part to lock the parts together to complete a single tufting operation. Safety means prevent damage to elements and mechanisms of the tufting machine by possible malfunctioning or improper operation.
Abstract:
A machine for inserting quilting or tufting buttons of the type shown in U.S. Pat. No. 3,701,174, has male and female button drive mechanisms similar to those shown in U.S. Pat. No. 4,059,889, driven by a foot powered lever arrangement for rapidly tufting a pad or the like.
Abstract:
A propeller hub carries pivotally-mounted blades that are linked to a spring-loaded collar on the propeller shaft for automatic coning and feathering under predetermined high velocity movement along the propeller shaft to change the blade pitch angle during low wind velocity conditions. An airfoil support mounts a propeller shaft and turns therewith to reduce tower shadow effects. This is called a "down-wind system" meaning the propeller is behind the tower and causes the assembly to rotate into the wind without a tail vane.
Abstract:
An electrically powered vehicle for an invalid has a track drive with pivoted idlers accommodating travel over obstacles and through uneven terrain and an electrically adjustable seat with an open front to facilitate seating of an invalid therein. Remote control affords the invalid user with the capability of calling the vehicle to bedside or the like whereby the invalid could use maximum freedom of movement.
Abstract:
A machine feeds material such as shredded or ground paper, cellulose fiber, peat moss, or the like, into a vertical chamber having a ram forcing the material into a communicating chamber adapted to retain a bag over an open end thereof and having a ram or pressure plate moveable longitudinally thereof for compressing the material in the chamber. The rams are perforated, with the rear thereof being evacuated to dispose of dust or the like, and a piston operated back-up plate is mounted on a track for controlled movement relative to the open ended chamber for holding a bag end during compression of material and removal of loaded bags.
Abstract:
A lumber cutting and sorting method wherein the lumber is cut into various predetermined lengths by abutting them against gage stops while making the cut. The gage stops have associated sensing means controlling downstream lateral deflector means for sorting the lumber by thickness, width, and/or grade. Crossed plural conveyors remove the cut lumber after sorting.
Abstract:
In a wind driven propeller system an airfoil support for the shaft of a propeller having an even number of blades extends above and below the shaft a distance at least equal to the blade length and pivots with the propeller into the wind for substantially eliminating tower shadow effects on the propeller.
