    摘要: In one method for controlling an electric motor, current turn-on and turn-off rotor-position angles for each motor phase are chosen to substantially maximize the absolute value of average motor torque when the motor is operating in two different quadrants of motor torque and motor speed. The first quadrant has positive motor torque and positive motor speed. The second quadrant has negative torque and positive speed. The third quadrant has negative torque and negative speed. The fourth quadrant has positive torque and negative speed. In another method, the motor is operated in at least one of the first and third quadrants and in at least one of the second and fourth quadrants, wherein the absolute value of motor speed is limited when the motor is operating in the first or third quadrants but not in the second or fourth quadrants. In one example, the motor operates a vehicle brake caliper.

    摘要: A target wheel sensor assembly includes a target wheel, a magnet, and two or more sensing elements placed therebetween. The magnet and the sensing elements are configured so that as the target wheel rotates each of the sensing elements outputs a respective asymmetric signal relative to the direction of rotation of the target wheel or an object mechanically connected to the wheel. Each of these asymmetric signals is differentially combined with one another to determine the direction of motion of the target wheel, and, if optionally desired, the position of the target wheel.

    摘要: A valve member is latched into open or closed positions by permanent magnetic poles against the force of compressed springs. A coil associated with each position, when activated with a current, cancels the magnetic field of the permanent magnetic pole holding the valve member and allows the compressed spring to move the member quickly through a central neutral position toward the other position, whereupon it is attracted by the other magnetic pole to compress the other spring and latch into the other position. Variations on the basic invention include different structures for single valves, the inclusion of two valves within a single pair of coils with different opening current levels, and the use of the coil opposite the activating coil as a valve member movement sensing device.

    摘要: A magnetostrictive fluid-pressure sensor includes annular inner and outer cylinders, a first connector, annular second and third connectors, and first and second coils. The inner cylinder surrounds a fluid-receiving bore. At least one of the cylinders is a magnetostrictive cylinder. The first connector connects the first ends of the cylinders and has a first portion extending radially inward of the inner cylinder. The second connector connects the second ends of the cylinders and defines a fluid inlet. The third connector connects the cylinders and is positioned longitudinally between the first and second connectors. The first coil is positioned radially between the inner and outer cylinders and longitudinally between the first and third connectors. The second coil is positioned radially between the inner and outer cylinders and longitudinally between the second and third connectors.

    摘要: A motor control includes position transducers for generating crankshaft position and motor position pulse trains. The pulse trains are compared to detect any phase difference between engine and motor. Tables are generated to define the desired phase difference needed for particular valve characteristics. The phase difference represents the instantaneous deviation from the basic profile. One of the tables is selected according to the engine conditions and the motor is driven to achieve the desired phase differences.

    摘要: A magnetic field sensor, such as a magnetoresistor, includes a strip of a layer of a high electron mobility semiconductor whose electrical characteristics vary when a magnetic field is applied thereto on the surface of a body (substrate) of an insulating layer. Conductive contacts are on the strip at the ends thereof and conductive shorting bars are on and spaced along the strip to divide the strip into active regions. The body is mounted on a permanent magnet assembly which includes a magnet and a layer of a ferromagnetic material with the ferromagnetic material extending over the strip. The ferromagnetic layer is in close proximity to only the strip and, more preferably, to only the active regions of the strip so as to confine the magnetic field to the strip.
