Abstract:
Disclosed is a phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound of the formula wherein Y is a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom, n is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, R1 is an alkylene group, an arylene group, an arylalkylene group, or an alkylarylene group, provided that no oxygen atom creates a linkage, X is —O— or —NR3— wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, and R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group.
Abstract:
A speculum insertable into a body cavity of a person including a support member having an opening, provided with elongated arm sections each disposed in a plane including a centerline of such opening, blade members each lying in the plane of an arm section and having an intermediate section pivotally connected to the support member, a first end section displaceable into and out of engagement with the end section of another blade member and a second end section displaceable relative to one of the arm sections, means for releaseably biasing the first end sections of the blade members into engagement, permitting such end sections to be inserted into and removed from a body cavity, and means mounted on each arm member, engageable by a second end section of a blade member, for caroming such blade member to pivot about the axis thereof.
Abstract:
Device operation sensing and control apparatus for use in combination with a wireless security panel which communicates with a remote operations center, to facilitate independent at-home living of, for example, semi-autonomous elderly persons. One apparatus embodiment includes a remotely controlled AC power receptacle module controllable by signals from the wireless security panel and into which a device such as a microwave oven is plugged. An AC current sensor is connected to an alarm system transmitter for transmitting a signal when the device is in use. Another apparatus embodiment senses operation of and allows remote control of power to an electric range. First and second timers and associated alarm system transmitters transmit a “RANGE ON” signal to the wireless security panel when the electric range is in use, and a “RANGE ON FOR X TIME” signal when the electric range has been use for a predetermined length of time.

Abstract:
A speculum for the insertion and expanding of a body cavity. The speculum comprises a plurality of blades pivotally connected around a ring-shaped frame, the first ends thereof extending longitudinally and meeting at a point distant from the frame to form a generally bulbous end and the second ends which are manipulated to rotate the blades about the frame. A rotating action of the second ends causes the first ends to angularly move away from each other to expand the bulbous end, and hence the body cavity. A series of block pivotally attached to the frame interact with the second ends to form a ratcheting locking means to lock the blades at certain positions between a closed position and an open position.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a colorant of the formula which comprises preparing a first reaction mixture by admixing leucoquinizarin and, optionally, quinizarin, an aminobenzene substituted with an alcohol group of the formula —R1—OH, boric acid, and an optional solvent, and heating the first reaction mixture to prepare an alcohol-substituted colorant of the formula followed by converting the colorant thus prepared to either an ester-substituted colorant by reaction with an esterification compound which is either an anhydride of the formula or an acid of the formula R2COOH in the presence of an optional esterification catalyst, or a urethane-substituted colorant by reaction with an isocyanate compound of the formula R4—N═C═O and brominating the colorant thus prepared, wherein either conversion to ester or urethane can be performed before bromination or bromination can be performed before conversion to ester or urethane.
Abstract:
A surgical pad adapted for use with a speculum blade insertable into the vaginal cavity of a patient, in performing a dilation a curettage procedure, generally comprising a pad disposable on the speculum blade for collecting curetted tissue, the pad having straps or an adhesive section on the underside thereof for securing the pad on the speculum blade to facilitate insertion of the pad on the speculum blade into the vaginal cavity and to prevent displacement of the pad relative to the speculum blade when performing curettage of the uterine canal. The periphery of the upper side of the pad is provided with an adhesive surface area covered by a removable strip which may be removed after curetted tissue has been collected on the pad to permit the pad to be folded onto itself and adhesively secured together to enclose the curetted tissue.
