Abstract:
The invention provides influenza proteins, including subunit proteins and immunogenic compositions that can be utilized, with or without adjuvants, as vaccines to protect against influenza infection in animal models and humans. The recombinant proteins are expressed from transformed insect cells that contain integrated copies of the appropriate expression cassettes in their genome. The invention uses a Drosophila melanogaster expression system to provide high yields of recombinant subunit proteins with native-like conformation.
Abstract:
A stepladder with four individually adjustable, self-locking rails so that the ladder can be placed on uneven terrain then safely adjusted to maintain level orientation. The ladder rails will consist of four pairs of outer and inner rails. Each outer and inner rail pair is designed with profiles that when brought together will lock into one another providing stability yet minimal friction. Each inner rail is held in place by a spring-loaded lever with attached hooks. The spring forces the hooks to be engaged with an adjustment bracket that is fixed to the outer rail. A foot will be fixed to the bottom of each inner rail. Each foot will have arched surfaces along 2 perpendicular horizontal axes so that consistent surface area contact is maintained with the ground regardless of the angle of the ground. On a level surface, when the ladder is in an un-adjusted state, the four inner rails are designed to be extended with respect to the outer rails providing equal distance between each step and reducing weight and production costs.
Abstract:
A method for attaching a surface mountable unit to a ground surface, said method comprising (i) fixing a foundation frame, an upper portion of which is attachable to said surface mountable unit to the ground surface, and (ii) attaching the surface mountable unit to the upper portion of the foundation frame. Systems comprising combinations of foundation frames and surface mountable units and elements for use therein are also described and claimed.
Abstract:
Apparatus for adjusting a frameless window pane moved by a cable window lifter in an automobile. The apparatus includes a first guide rail which has an unlocked and a locked state, and a second guide rail. The first guide rail is freely movable to a limited degree in the unlocked state and fixed in the locked state. A window pane is connected between the first guide rail and the second guide rail such that movement of the second guide rail causes the first guide rail to move when in its unlocked state. A bolt is provided for moving the second guide rail and for locking the first guide rail.
Abstract:
An apparatus having a container comprising a volume. The volume is configured to retain a single dose of a medication appropriate for a specific classification of a weight of a patient. A first indicia is disposed on an exterior surface of the container. The first indicia indicates a type of the medication. A second indicia is disposed on the exterior surface. The second indicia indicates the specific classification, wherein the container, pre-packaged with the single dose, is appropriate for a single use dosing of the patient having the specific classification.

Abstract:
The Flaviviridae comprise a number of medically important pathogens that cause significant morbidity in humans including the dengue (DEN) virus, Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus, tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBE), and yellow fever virus (YF). Flaviviruses are generally transmitted to vertebrates by chronically infected mosquito or tick vectors. The viral particle which is enveloped by host cell membranes, comprises a single positive strand genomic RNA and the structural capsid (CA), membrane (M), and envelope (E) proteins. The E and M proteins are found on the surface of the virion where they are anchored in the membrane. Mature E is glycosylated and contains functional domains responsible for cell surface attachment and intraendosomal fusion activities. Problems have arisen in the art with respect to producing recombinant forms of the E glycoprotein that retain their native configuration and attendant properties associated therewith (i.e., ability to induce neutralizing antibody responses). To date, recombinantly produced E glycoproteins have suffered from a number of limitations including improper glycosylation, folding, and disulfide bond formation. The claimed invention has addressed these concerns by providing secreted recombinant forms of the E glycoprotein that are highly immunogenic and appear to retain their native configuration. Carboxy-terminally truncated forms of E containing the amino terminal 395 amino acids and a suitable secretion signal sequence were generated in Drosophila melanogaster Schneider cell lines. The recombinant proteins produced by this expression system should prove useful, inter alia, as immunogens and diagnostic reagents.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a method of shielding a circuit board, a circuit board, an electromagnetic shield and a method of manufacturing an electromagnetic shield. In an aspect, the method comprises placing a first electromagnetic shield over a first area of the circuit board and placing a second electromagnetic shield over a second area of the circuit board. At least one of the electromagnetic shields has at least one projection therefrom that contacts and makes electrical connection with a surface of the other electromagnetic shield when the shields are placed on the circuit board.
