Various embodiments of an improved reconstitution device 30, 168, 170, 186, 242, 256, 274 are disclosed, directed to the proper mixing of two substances, and are particularly directed to the medical field for the reconstitution of a drug 36 which may be stored in a drug vial 32 with a diluent 60 stored in a flexible medical solution container 34 and used for the intravenous delivery of a medicament. In one embodiment the reconstitution device 30 includes an improved vial adapter 76 and bag adapter 78 which permit the permanent coupling of the vial 32 and liquid container 34. The bag adapter 78 may be rotatable relative to the vial adapter 76 to operate a valve including a stem channel 108 and a base post 148 on the vial adapter 76, a base segment channel 136 and a cut out portion 146 of a rim 140 on the bag adapter 78, and a sealing segment 80 disposed between the vial and bag adapter 76, 78. The reconstitution device 30 reduces drug waste in hospitals, eliminates the need to relabel parenteral solution containers after a drug has been added, and prevents repeated exposure of hospital personnel to various drugs.

The machine receives open top filled packages (such as trays as one example) placed in side by side nests on an endless conveyor, means being operative to move the conveyor in alternate forward and rest movements, under the forward length of a cover sheet, such as sealing plastic, carried by a roll of the sheet. The nests with their packages are moved by the conveyor under a heated sealing plate, at which point the conveyor rests, and the sealing plate is driven downward into contact with the coversheet area above the packages, and the latter is sealed to the packages, as, for example, to the margins thereof. The sealing plate is then withdrawn upwardly and the packages given an upward movement and into contact with a hot wire cut-off which cuts the marginal edges of the sealed covers from the cover sheet. Then the packages are moved by the machine upwardly to a point above a series of delivery rollers, and pushing means move them so that then by gravity they leave the machine. The conveyor thus moves and rests repeatedly to act repeatedly on each side by side nestheld packages along the length of the conveyor, as to the machine elements thus specified.

The present invention provides a surgical device having a tissue engaging portion, a shaft member, and a handle assembly. The tissue engaging portion includes first and second opposed jaws for grasping, securing, and occluding body tissue and conduits. The shaft member is operatively coupled to the tissue engaging portion and is capable of being placed in different curvatures. The handle assembly is operatively coupled to both the shaft member and to the tissue engaging portion. The shaft member of the present invention allows the surgeon to bend and adjust the shape of the surgical device to minimize its intrusion and to allow for proper positioning in predetermined body locations. In a preferred embodiment, a portion of the device is disposable.

An endoscopic tissue retractor capable of being inserted through an endoscopic tube and subsequently capable of forming a T-shaped bar at its distal end. The legs of the "T" may be aligned with the axis of the tissue retractor for insertion within an endoscopic tube and situated transversely to the longitudinal axis for actual use. In use, the legs extend to diametrically opposed sides of the longitudinal axis of the tissue retractor and are rotatable in a plane passing through the axis of the endoscopic tube. A transversely slidable locking mechanism is provided to lock the components of the tissue retractor in a desired position.
