Abstract:
Water soluble polymers are prepared by the process of reacting a first monomer selected from the group consisting of maleic acid, maleic anhydride and alkali metal salts of maleic acid with at least one other copolymerizable monomer in water in the presence of 18 - 40 parts by weight of persulfate catalyst per 100 parts by weight of monomer. The catalyst is preferably potassium persulfate. The resulting polymers are useful ingredients in detergent compositions, especially those used for machine dishwashing.
Abstract:
MALEIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMERS (E.G., COPOLYMERIZED WITH VINYL ACETATE) ARE USED IN ADDITIVE AMOUNTS IN WATER (E.G., SEA WATER) TO REDUCE MAINTENANCE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF SUCH WATER IN HEAT TRANSFER EQUIPMENT (E.G., EVAPORATORS).
Abstract:
An electrical bridge circuit having a conductivity cell in one leg thereof, normally biased away from the null point so that a signal is produced by the bridge when the conductivity cell is operating at a desired set point. A semiconductor switching circuit is attached to a solenoid valve to vary material added to a solution, such as soap mixed with water. A combination of switching circuit bias, the signal from the bridge and a signal platform produced by a zener diode during portions of the positive cycle of an alternating power source, normally maintain the switch in a non-conducting state but sufficient variation of the conductivity cell in a direction caused by low conductivity, or too little material in the solution, produces a sufficient signal to switch the semiconductor switch into a conducting state to operate the solenoid valve.
Abstract:
Apparatus including a dual product venturi aspirator and a failsafe diaphragm valve. A first venturi aspirator is utilized to draw a first additive (e.g. an alkaline cleanser) into a carrier liquid (e.g. water) flowing therethrough and, similarly, a second additive (e.g. a chlorinating agent) is drawn by a second venturi into a carrier liquid flowing therethrough. A fail-safe elastic diaphragm centrally mounted between the two aspirators and in communication therewith is operable thereby for automatically terminating the aspiration of either one of the two additives upon the exhaustion of the supply of the other additive, thereby assuring simultaneous injection of the two additives into a cleansing system. Fail-safe apparatus for providing simultaneous injection of three additives is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A disc mounted in a stream of fluid for rotation at a rate proportional to the rate of flow of the fluid and constructed to interrupt a light beam at least once per revolution to provide a series of pulses which are utilized to time an injection motor so that a material is introduced into the stream in an amount proportional to the rate of flow of the fluid in the stream.
