摘要: Substantially gas free raw materials are melted to form molten glass by urging a bed of particulate materials toward a resistance heating member. The solid materials are urged into close proximity with the resistance heater and, at most, a thin film of molten glass is maintained on the heater plate. The heater plate contains one or more passages through which the molten glass flows into a heated reservoir in which the glass achieves the requisite homogeneity.

摘要: A method and apparatus for forming glass fibers employing a generally flat orifice plate having closely spaced orifices is disclosed. A bulk flow of upwardly directed cooling gas which impinges on the orifice plate to eliminate stagnant gas pockets and which surrounds and cools the molten glass cones beneath each orifice is employed to maintain fiber separation and improve fiber formation and properties. This a division of application Ser. No. 500,303, now U.S. Pat. No. 3,905,790, filed Aug. 26, 1974, which is a continuation-in-part of Ser. No. 432,997, filed Jan 14, 1974, abandoned.

摘要: A bulletin board, display panel or other posting device, having a pressure-sensitive surface on a thick resilient backing, has inproved object-retaining properties. The resilient backing may be a polyether-polyurethane or polyester-polyurethane foam having an indentation load delfection of about 45 pounds per square foot (about 22 grams per square centimeter). The preferred pressure-sensitive adhesive is a water-washable tacky elastomer with a Young's modulus of elasticity of about 5 to 50 psi (about 350 to 3500 grams per square centimeter).

摘要: A water-cooled distilling apparatus for purifying or distilling raw water. The apparatus includes a boiler, cooling tray assembly, and collection vessel. In use, raw water is initially poured into the boiler which has a self-regulating screen in it. As the water beings to boil, the screen rises to float above the raw water. The height of the screen above the water automatically adjusts proportionately to the rate of boil to proportionately expose more or less surface area of the screen. A water film forms on the exposed surface area of the screen and clean steam rises therefrom into the cooling tray assembly where it is deflected into a condensing area on each level of the assembly. In each condensing area, heat is transferred from the steam into coolant water in a reservoir, causing the coolant water to evaporate from the reservoir and the steam to condense on the bottom of the surface of the reservoir. Distillate formed by the condensing steam is then collected and transferred to a collection vessel.

摘要: A throw-away pad, especially for use at the entrance to a clean area but not exclusively for such use. Of multiple ply construction, it comprises a plurality of very thin poly-ethylene or polypropylene sheets, of suitable surface size and shape to receive at least a pair of shod feet. Each sheet bears a very thin coating of pressure-sensitive adhesive on its top surface. The bottom surface of the pad, that is, the bottom of the lowermost sheet thereof, also is coated with adhesive so that the pad, when in use, is removably adhered to the floor. The pressure-sensitive adhesive has a low modulus of elasticity, a high internal viscosity and high surface free energy, so that it firmly and aggressively grabs dirt from shoes of wheels passing over it, yet each sheet can be readily peeled off after use to expose a fresh adhesive surface to further traffic. The entire pad or stack is thin to present no hazard or obstacle to foot or to wheeled vehicles, e.g., to a gurney being wheeled into an operating room.

摘要: UPON A BASE IS A FILM OF WATER-WASHABLE TACKY ELASTOMER, HAVING A MODULUS OF ELASTICITY (YOUNG''S MODULUS) OF ABOUT 1 TO 100 P.S.I., AND AN INTERNAL VISCOSITY OF ABOUT 1000 TO 20,000 POISES OR EXPRESSED IN MINUTES BY ANOTHER TEST METHOD, OF FROM 0.1 TO 800 MINUTES. THE ELASTOMER IS A HYDROPHOBIC, WATER-INSOLUBLE ELASTIC SOLID WITH LOW CREEP, TYPICALLY MADE FROM SUCH MATERIALS AS POLYVINYL CHLORIDE, COPOLYMER OF VINYL CHLORIDE AND VINYL ACETATE, POLYURETHANE, OR POLYSULFIDE; OFTEN A PLASTICIZER COMPATIBLE THEREWITH IS EMPLOYED TO OBTAIN THE DESIRED PHYSICAL QUALITIES.
