摘要:
An automatic strand take-up installation includes at least a first gripping member for taking hold of at least one strand bundle, the first gripping member being guided by a first conveying loop to a second gripping member guided by a second conveying loop, the bundle passing from one loop to the other loop due to an operating system for opening and closing the gripping members.
摘要:
An apparatus and method for forming fibers from thermo-plastic material that can be liquified and drawn into elongated filaments that are subsequently cooled to form the fibers is shown wherein the system automatically accomplishes the substantially instantaneous rebirth of a fiber forming filament if there should be a breakage of any filament during an otherwise normal production run.
摘要:
A process and apparatus is disclosed for forming fibers from attenuable materials, such as molten glass, by attenuating streams of glass from the bottom of a bushing wherein the bottom has downwardly presented wall portions at upper and lower levels. According to the disclosure the upper or lower wall portions are formed into series of bosses, each having a multiplicity of orifices in the lower ball portions. Bosses with alveoles are disclosed. Filamentary material is manufactured by drawing at least one filament from each boss independently of each other boss or from separate fiber forming regions in each boss regardless of whether or not the material has flooded the bottom surface of any boss. Embodiments with one alveole per boss or plural alveoles per boss are disclosed. Where plural alveoles per boss are provided, shallow transverse grooves in the lower wall portions of the bosses may be used to separate the orifices of one alveole from the orifices of adjacent alveoles. Controlled cooling permits the selective drawing of one or a plurality of filaments from each alveole.
摘要:
The disclosure embraces a method of and apparatus for removing glass floods that may form on the tip section or orifice plate of a stream feeder, bushing or substrate from which normally flow streams of glass, the method and apparatus involving the application or delivery of a stream or streams of liquid carbonaceous or hydrocarbon material onto the glass flooded area, the liquid material being decomposed in an atmospheric environment or in an inert or nonoxidizing environment by the high temperatures of the feeder, bushing or substrate and the molten glass to release carbon particles which are effective to dewet the glass flood and remove the flood.
摘要:
An apparatus and method for use with a bushing assembly of the type wherein glass fibers are drawn through an orifice plate having a flat undersurface against which bulk gas is directed to effect cooling and fiber attentuation. A selectively adjustable bulk gas nozzle has a plurality of discharge conduits with valves therein which are adjustable and capable of being selectively operated to close the conduits or return the conduits to a preset open condition. The nozzle and/or a binder applicator are supported for select movement toward and away from the path of the fiber being drawn from the orifice plate. A detector senses the presence of fiber being drawn from the orifice plate and, in the event of fiber break-out, initiates a series of steps to warn the operator of the bushing assembly and, in the event the break-out condition is not corrected, shut down the drawing operation.
摘要:
In a process for spinning glass fibers continuously from a nozzle plate having 25- 200 orifices per cm.sup.2, a start-up operation is improved by using the nozzle plate made of a material having a contact angle of 60.degree. or more, drawing flooded molten glass which has spread over the whole undersurface of the nozzle plate at a greater speed than the flowing speed of the molten glass by its own weight from each orifice, while maintaining the normal spinning temperature, and finding the ends of the individual filaments.

A method of processing an optical fiber includes introducing fiber that has passed a pulling mechanism to a shredding unit with an introducing unit. The introducing unit includes a movable unit including a notch configured to fit with a capstan roller included in the pulling mechanism, a sliding mechanism that attaches the movable unit slidably with respect to a main body of the introducing unit, and a restoring mechanism configured to restore the movable unit to an initial position when the movable unit has slid. The method includes shredding the fiber introduced by the introducing unit into fiber pieces, and suctioning, carrying, and collecting the fiber pieces. A method of drawing an optical fiber includes drawing the fiber while controlling a drawing speed, adjusting a diameter of the fiber to a diameter passable through a die, and arranging the die around the fiber having the diameter passable through the die.
