    摘要: Using novel synthetic techniques, siloxane-urea segmented copolymers are made. The copolymers advantageously contain a polyether interface, with controlled morphologies and properties. High molecular weight, high strength siloxane-urea copolymers with urea hard segment contents ranging from 5 to over 60% by weight may be prepared. Polymer properties that can independently be controlled include modulus (1.0 to 120 MPa), ultimate tensile strength (1.5 to 25 MPa), level of equilibrium water absorption (˜0 to 100% by weight) and refractive index (1.43 to 1.46).

    摘要: A series of new high abrasion resistance coating materials have been prepared utilizing organic/inorganic hybrid materials formed by cohydrolyzing a metal alkoxide sol (e.g. silicon, aluminum, titanium, or zirconium metal alkoxide sol) with one or more bis(trialkoxysilane-containing) organic components or related functionalized species. These hybrid materials show optical clarity and improve the abrasion resistance of polymer substrates when applied as coatings and cured on such substrates.

    摘要: Polymeric catalysts (e.g., polymeric acid catalysts such as poly(styrene)sulfonic acid) can be used in the synthesis of sol-gel derived ceramic materials from metal alkoxides, for example, organic/inorganic hybrid materials formed by reaction of a metal alkoxide and a reactive endcapped polymeric modifier. The use of a polymeric catalyst, rather than a conventional monomeric (inorganic or organic) acid catalyst, has a non-deleterious effect on the aging behavior and offers potential for control of rheological properties (spinnability, coatability, etc.) of the hybrid materials.

    摘要: New hybird materials prepared by incorporating a metal alkoxide sol, which is adapted to yield a high refractive-index metal oxide (e.g., titanium dioxide or zirconium dioxide), with a high refractive-index organic polymeric component (e.g., a triethoxysilane-capped poly(arylene ether) ketone or poly(arylene ether) sulfone) have been developed by the sol-gel method. The final products are transparent and display a high refractive index (n.sub.D =1.60-1.76). The refractive index of these hybrid materials has a linear relationship with the metal oxide content.
