摘要: A device and method are described for identifying the size of a disposable diaper or absorbent article which is appropriate in terms of proper fit for a potential wearer of the article. The device and method employ information regarding at least two different selected characteristics of potential wearers and an association between such information and a size of the article which is fit-appropriate for a potential wearer. The size identification is more reliable than an identification which is based solely upon a single characteristic of the potential wearer.

摘要: Absorbent articles such as disposable training pants, pull-up diapers, incontinence briefs, diaper holders, feminine hygiene garments, and the like, having extensible side panel features that improve the dynamic fit of the diaper around the legs and waist of the wearer. Such absorbent articles include a containment assembly including a liquid pervious topsheet; a liquid impervious backsheet; an absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet; and extensible side panels, each including a waist panel and a thigh panel disposed along each longitudinal edge of the containment assembly in the first waist region. The waist panel and the thigh panel are operatively associated so that the waist panel has a primary direction of extensibility in one direction and the thigh panel has a primary direction of extensibility in a different direction. This forms a multi-directional extensible side panel wherein the waist panel provides tension around the wearer's waist to maintain fit about the waist and to hold the diaper on the wearer, and the thigh panel expands and contracts to maintain a dynamic fit around the leg of the wearer. Thus, the waist and thigh panels reduce the negative effects of the dynamic forces on the absorbent article, such as sagging and gapping that can cause leakage, while increasing freedom of motion and wearer comfort.

摘要: Absorbent articles such as diapers, incontinent briefs, training pants, diaper holders and liners, feminine hygiene garments, and the like, designed to provide sustained dynamic fit about the wearer during use as well as to improve the containment of body exudates and wearer comfort/mobility. Such an absorbent article has an absorbent core preferably designed to fit within the low motion zone of the wearer so that dynamic forces imparted by movements of the wearer on the absorbent core are minimized. The absorbent article is also provided with a closure system for anchoring the absorbent article on the wearer to sustain the dynamic fit of the absorbent article throughout wearing. The closure system is designed so that a primary line of tension, fitting at an angle to the body, is formed to secure the absorbent article on a wearer. The absorbent article preferably further comprises elastic features for fitting about the extremities of the wearer, including elastic waist features, elastic leg features, and elastic side panels, that allow freedom of movement for the wearer as well as maintenance of forces about the body to sustain the fit of the absorbent article. Preferred containment assembly (chassis) designs are also provided.

摘要: An absorbent article includes a liquid impervious backsheet joined to a liquid permeable topsheet with an absorbent core disposed therebetween. The joined topsheet and backsheet includes an extensible portion that is non-elastically, laterally extensible having a percent elongation of at least about 125%. A pair of elastomeric side panels is joined to a portion of the joined topsheet and backsheet near the extensible portion. Each of the side panels is elastically laterally extensible such that the force required to elongate the side panels a select percent elongation is less than the force required to elongate the extensible portion of the joined topsheet and backsheet an equivalent select percent elongation.

摘要: Described herein is a multiple layer absorbent core having a front ear section, a crotch section and a back ear section, wherein the machine direction length of the crotch section equals the combined machine direction length of the front ear section and the back ear section, the angle and radii forming the transition from the crotch width to the ear width being equal, the core being suitable for use in an absorbent article, and a method for manufacturing such multiple layer absorbent core. The method comprises providing a single web of absorbent core material from a roll, in which the web having parallel straight longitudinal side edges; continuously transporting the web of absorbent core material in the machine direction; continuously cutting the web of absorbent core material longitudinally into web sections having at least one full-pattern strip having a repeating hourglass-shape and first and second side trim pieces each of the side trim pieces having a straight edge defined by one of the parallel straight longitudinal side edges of the web and an opposite non-linear longitudinal edge having a pattern corresponding to one of the longitudinal edges of the full-pattern strip; continuously orienting the side trim pieces relative to the full-pattern strip such that the ear sections and said crotch section of the side trim pieces are superimposed in registration with said full-pattern strip to form a continuous multiple layer composite strip; and successively cutting the composite strip in the transverse direction at predetermined intervals to form discrete multiple layer absorbent cores.

摘要: An absorbent article having an expandable component. The expandable component comprises a compressed, resilient element disposed within an air impermeable envelope. The compressed element provides the absorbent article with a thin, low bulk profile prior to use of the disposable absorbent article, thereby reducing shipping and storage space. At the point of use of the absorbent article, the air impervious envelope is opened, thereby permitting entry of air into the envelope and expansion of the compressed element. In one embodiment the expandable component is a spacer for maintaining fecal void space in a disposable diaper. Alternatively, the expandable component can provide displacement of the topsheet relative to the backsheet along the longitudinal centerline of a sanitary napkin.

摘要: This application relates to the use of slitted regions in absorbent members formed of absorbent materials that remain relatively thin until wetted with such fluids. Suitable materials include presently preferred varieties of polymeric foam materials. Single and multi-layered absorbent members incorporating slitted regions are disclosed, as well as the use of pre-formed cup-shaped slits for enhanced initial fluid acquisition. Such slitted regions in combination with planar expansion properties enable the absorbent members to respond dynamically to various fluid loading conditions to create useful structural features. The slitted regions, in combination with absorbent materials having expansion potential in at least one direction within the plane of the absorbent member, cause the slitted regions to buckle and/or deform out of the plane of the absorbent member, thereby causing the slit surfaces to displace angularly and/or translationally with respect to one another. This more fully exposes the slit surfaces to the incoming fluid for improved acquisition capabilities. The use of pre-formed cup-shaped slits enables the absorbent member to more quickly capture and absorb aqueous body fluids, and is particularly useful for containment and dewatering of moist or runny fecal material and higher viscosity fluids and/or those having a higher concentration of particulate material therein such as blood, menses, or wound fluids.
