    摘要: The present disclosure is directed to polymer blends comprising a biopolymer and a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic polyester. The aliphatic polyester comprises repeating units derivable from a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic diacid, repeating units derivable from a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic diol, and one or two terminator units derivable from a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic alcohol. The polymer blends disclosed herein provide improved flexibility, and are useful, for example, in the production of packaging materials, industrial products, durable goods, and the like.

    摘要: Coating compositions based on nonlinear, low molecular weight, polyester-based polyols having low viscosity and high solids content made by reacting a branched, polyhydric alcohol having at least three hydroxyl groups, such as trimethylolpropane; a glycol or diol; and a compound selected from the group consisting of a aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acid, C1–C6 alkyl ester, anhydride, diacid halide, or mixtures thereof. The nonlinear, polyester-based polyols are quite effective in maintaining a high solids content while lowering viscosity when blended with other coating resins, such as acrylic resins, making the coating resins more effective in cured coatings by improving flexibility, impact resistance and hardness without adversely affecting appearance, solvent resistance, and/or accelerated weathering. This invention also relates to the process of coating a substrate with these coating compositions.

    摘要: A hair-treating composition containing a diester or polyester of a naphthalene dicarboxylic acid having compound formula (I) (II) or (III), or mixtures; for imparting gloss and/or hair color stabilization: wherein each R1, same or different, is an alkyl group having 1 to 22 carbon atoms, a diol having the structure HO—R2—OH, or a polyglycol having the structure HO—R3—(—O—R2—)m—OH, wherein R2 and R3, same or different, are each an allylene group, straight chain or branched, having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and wherein m and n are each 1 to about 100, or a mixture thereof. These diesters and polyesters of formula (I) or (II) are quite effective in stabilizing the dibenzoylmethane derivative UV-A filter compounds making them more effective, and effective for longer periods of time.

    摘要: Vinyl sulfonate monomers are recovered from an aqueous stream by bringing the stream into contact with activated carbon to allow the carbon to adsorb the monomers from the stream. The sulfonate monomers are subsequently removed from the carbon by bringing an aqueous solution of acrylonitrile into contact with the carbon. The acrylonitrile replaces the sulfonate monomers on the carbon to thereby desorb the sulfonate monomers into the solution in a concentration such that the solution is useful as a feed stream directly to a polymerization reactor. The sulfonate monomers have the formula ##SPC1##Where R.sub.1 is --H or --CH.sub.3, R.sub.2 is --CH.sub.2 O--, --O--, or --CH.sub.2 , n is 0 or 1 and X is Na, K or H.
