摘要: The present invention relates to a delivery system for delivering a device for closing a passageway in a body, for example a patent foramen ovale (PFO) in a heart. The delivery system has an elongate member having a proximal and distal end. A deflectable needle assembly having luminal and abluminal surfaces is slideably engaged within the elongate member. An actuator is slideabley engaged within the elongate member and attached to the needle tip assembly such that translational movement of the actuator causes deflection of the deflectable needle assembly.

摘要: A device for deploying a mechanical closure device for closing a passageway in a body, for example a patent foramen ovale (PFO) in a heart. The deployment device has a first tubular structure having proximal and distal ends. A second tubular structure is substantially coaxial to and slideably engaged within the first tubular structure. The second tubular structure has a first substantially linear shape when constrained within the first tubular structure, and a second curvilinear shape when telescopically extended from the distal end of the first tubular structure. A third tubular structure is substantially coaxial to and slideably engaged within the second tubular structure. The third tubular structure is configured to provide sufficient rigidity to push the mechanical closure device from the distal end of the second tubular structure, and provide sufficient flexibility to assume a curvilinear shape when deflected by the second tubular structure.

摘要: A system for holding surgical fasteners each having a first anchor, a second anchor and a connector extending therebetween upwardly from the first and second anchors, and a method for loading the same into an applicator. The system includes a shuttle having first and second channels dimensioned to slidably receive therein the first and second anchors, and having first and second grooves respectively forming openings into the channels along a portion of a length of the channels. When the first and second anchors are received within the first and second channels, the connector of the surgical fastener extends out of the shuttle through the first and second grooves. The system also includes a cartridge having at least a first channel dimensioned to slidably receive the shuttle therein, and having a first projection extending into the first channel. When the shuttle and loaded fastener are received within the cartridge channel, the connector of the surgical fastener abuts the first projection to thereby limit movement of the fastener toward a distal end of the cartridge.

摘要: A looped tissue-grasping device includes a looped suture having two ends swaged to a needle and a plurality of tissue-grasping elements provided on the looped suture. The device is used for joining bodily tissue in surgical applications and wound repair. The configuration of the tissue-grasping elements permit movement of the suture through the tissue in the direction the needle is pulled and, prevent slippage or movement of the suture in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the needle.

摘要: The invention relates to a surgical instrument and a method for treating female urinary incontinence. A tape or mesh is permanently implanted into the body as a support for the urethra. In one embodiment, portions of the tape comprise tissue growth factors and adhesive bonding means for attaching portions of the tape to the pubic bone. In a further embodiment, portions of the tape comprise attachment means for fastening portions of the tape to fascia within the pelvic cavity. In both embodiments the tape is implanted with a single incision through the vaginal wall.

摘要: An implantable surgical mesh is provided, one embodiment of which includes a plurality of absorbable filaments, and a plurality of non-absorbable filaments. Substantially all of the plurality of non-absorbable filaments are substantially aligned in a single direction with substantially no cross-linking therebetween. The plurality of absorbable filaments are interwoven with the non-absorbable filaments to thereby form a bi-directional mesh structure prior to absorption of the absorbable filaments.

摘要: An applicator for applying a sheet of surgical material, e.g., a surgical mesh, to internal body tissue includes a delivery tube, a deployment tube slidably received within the delivery tube, and a shaft or irrigation tube slidably received within the deployment tube. An expandable spreader tip is connected between the distal ends of the shaft and the deployment tube. The spreader tip is collapsed and inserted in the delivery tube with the surgical mesh. The applicator is inserted through a trocar tube into a body cavity and the spreader tip is exposed by retracting the delivery tube relative to the deployment tube and shaft. The applicator has a first actuator for urging the spreader tip and surgical mesh into engagement with the tissue as the deployment tube is retracted and a second actuator for advancing the deployment tube relative to the shaft to expand the spreader tip to apply the surgical mesh to the tissue. The spreader tip includes a plurality of flexible strips each having its opposite ends pivotally connected to the distal ends of the shaft and the deployment tube. The applicator includes a return spring to bias the deployment tube proximally relative to the shaft to normally maintain the spreader tip collapsed.

摘要: An improved endoscopic device of the type having a surgical needle; a hollow tube; and a filamentary strand attached at its distal end to the surgical needle, and slideably engaged at its proximal end about the tube with a partially tightened slip knot. The improvement in the device relates to means for pulling the filamentary strand through the hollow tube proximally when the surgical needle is detached from the strand. 摘要: A composition with reduced tack used to reinforce polyurethane casts is disclosed. The composition has controlled foaming activity and a viscosity between 100,000 and 1,000,000. The foaming activity and viscosity and reduced tack allow the formulation to be readily applied to the cast area that is to be reinforced.
