Abstract: Systems and methods for power system switching element (PSSE) anomaly detection are disclosed. An example PSSE anomaly detection unit may include a power system switching element position estimator (PSSEPE) and a comparison unit. The PSSEPE may be configured to receive a set of measurements and a set of control commands associated with a PSSE, calculate an anomaly confidence score based on the set of measurements and the set of control commands, and estimate a calculated PSSE position based on the set of measurements and the set of control commands. The comparison unit may be configured to receive the calculated PSSE position from the PSSEPE, receive the set of measurements and the set of control commands from the PSSEPE, receive a reported PSSE position associated with the PSSE, and determine a PSSE anomaly decision based on a difference between the reported PSSE position and the calculated PSSE position.

Abstract: An electrical assembly includes a number of modules, each module including at least one module switching element and at least one energy storage device, each module switching element and each energy storage device in each module arranged to be combinable to provide a voltage source, each module including a discharge circuit with a discharge switching element and a discharge resistor, each discharge switching element switchable to switch the corresponding discharge resistor into and out of the corresponding module, wherein the electrical assembly includes a controller configured to control the discharge switching elements to modulate the switching of each discharge resistor into and out of the corresponding module in a voltage balancing mode when the modules are in a blocked state so that each module emulates a resistive load profile to balance a distribution of voltages between the modules, wherein the resistive load profile includes at least one positive resistive slope.

Abstract: The present application provides a method for monitoring a through fault current. The method may involve: detecting a through fault; calculating an electrical stress, peak current, and duration of the through fault; determining two sets of percentage state changes associated with the through fault; assigning a respective set of weights and criticalities to each set of percentage state changes; calculating a mechanical state change based on the first set of percentage state changes and the first set of weights and criticalities; calculating a thermal state change based on the second set of percentage state changes and the second set of weights and criticalities; calculating a cumulative state change based on the mechanical and thermal state changes; and training a machine learning model using the electrical stress, peak current, duration, two sets of percentage state changes, and mechanical, thermal, and cumulative state changes.

Abstract: A system includes a gas turbine (GT) system at a power plant operatively coupled to a generator to always generate power at a baseload. A first portion of the GT system's baseload power is transmitted to an electric grid. Where demand for power from the grid does not exceed a threshold, a second portion of the GT system's baseload power is transmitted to a hydrogen-producing electrolyzer to generate hydrogen fuel for a second GT system. Where demand for power from the grid exceeds the threshold, a third portion of the GT system's baseload power is transmitted to the grid. The GT system always runs at baseload but is capable of providing increased power to the grid quickly, like conventional spinning reserves. The system improves efficiencies by running all GT systems at baseload, and reduces emissions for the second GT system by providing hydrogen fuel thereto when grid power demand allows.

Abstract: A system for readying sub-critical and super-critical steam generator, a servicing method of the sub-critical and the super-critical steam generator and a method of operation of sub-critical and super-critical steam generator is provided. The steam generator includes a first auxiliary heating device disposed on at least one water-steam separator for heating the at least one water-steam separator, and/or a second auxiliary heating device disposed at least on a part of furnace top-end piping for heating the furnace top-end piping. The auxiliary heating devices are heating steam producing components of the steam generator and thus allowing to keep them above the temperature in which materials creating the steam producing components are brittle. The method includes recirculation of the water through the steam generator.

The controller may control the power grid in response to the dynamic system rating.
