    摘要: A modified lamp includes first and second filaments contained in an envelope to which power is selectively provided individually or conjunctively to obtain three distinct light levels. A contact member in the lamp base is modified to include a planar surface over a major portion of its radial width. Additionally, a lead wire opening that receives one of the lead wires extending from one of the filaments, is spaced from the planar surface to limit the potential for electrical contact with a tang of an associated socket. In one preferred embodiment, the lead wire opening is disposed in a recess that has a maximum circumferential dimension less than the cross-section of the tang to preclude advancement of the tang into the recess. A flat is provided along the outer periphery of the contact member to provide accurate orientation of the contact member during lamp assembly.

    摘要: A lighting apparatus includes a bilaterally symmetrical light engine comprising first and second light emitting diode (LED) devices or planar LED device arrays facing opposite directions, and an envelope including phosphor spaced apart from and surrounding the bilaterally symmetrical light engine. The phosphor is effective to convert light emitted by the light engine to emission light. The bilaterally symmetrical light engine may be configured to emit light having a bilaterally symmetrical intensity distribution that is uniform except at emission angles within 10° of the symmetry plane of the bilaterally symmetrical light engine. Each of the first and second LED devices or planar LED device arrays may comprise at least one hemispherically emitting LED device including an LED chip and an encapsulant encapsulating the LED chip and shaped to refract light emitted by the LED chip into a uniform distribution over a hemispherical solid angle.

    摘要: A method of green joining ceramic components is disclosed, particularly for use in forming a discharge body for a ceramic metal halide lamp. The process includes providing a first green ceramic component having a male joining surface, and providing a second green ceramic component having a female joining surface dimensioned to matingly receive the first component. The first and second green ceramic components are assembled along the joining surfaces, the assembled components are uniformly heated to join the first and second components. The joined components are next cooled in a cooling bath that uniformly cools the joined components. Thereafter, the joined green part may be inserted in the furnace for debindering and sintering.
