Abstract: A concentric rotary fluid machine includes a first body and a second body that are rotatable relative to each other and coaxially arranged one inside the other. A plurality of gates are supported by the second body in gate pockets. Each gate pocket includes: a gate retention recess that receives a gate cylinder of a gate; a gate seal recess that receives a sealing portion of a gate; and an intervening land. The sealing portion is configured to reciprocate up and down within a corresponding gate seal recess while maintaining contact with the recess and the second body. A plurality of lobes on the first body cause the gates to swing about respective swing axes as the first body rotates relative to the second body. The lobes and the lands are configured so that a lobe forms a substantial seal against a land when in mutual radial alignment.

Abstract: A fluid rotary machine includes first and second bodies and that are rotatable relative to each other. The second body is inside the first body to define a working fluid space there between. In addition, the machine includes a plurality of gates. Each gate 18 is supported by the first body and is movable in a radial direction with respect to the first and second bodies to extend into and retract from the working fluid space. The machine also includes a magnetic gate control system configured to exert control of the motion and/or position of the gates in the radial direction. The magnetic gate control system is a dispersed system including magnets or magnets and components made of ferromagnetic materials. The magnetic gate control system may be dispersed between the gates, and one or both of the bodies.

Abstract: A rotary fluid drive has first and second bodies 20, 120. The second body 120 is rotatable relative to and inside of the first body 20 defining a working fluid space 40 there between. Gates 130 are supported by the first body 20 and lobes 124 are provide on the second body 120. Gate pockets 26 are formed in the first body 20 into which the gates swing when contacted by the lobes 124. The gates 130 and the gate pockets 26 are configured to form a debris chamber 27 there between capable of temporarily accommodating solid debris. Each gate 130 has a plurality of projections 136A with intervening gaps 136B. The gaps form a gate pocket flow path 141. Working fluid flows via each gate pocket flow path 141 into the working fluid space 40 when the associated gate 130 is maximally deflected into its associated gate pocket 26.

Abstract: A rotary fluid machine 10 has a rotor 12, a stator 14, and a plurality of gates. The rotor 12 and stator 14 are rotatable relative to each other and arranged one inside the other to define a working chamber 18 there between. Gates 16 are supported in radial gate slots 20 formed in the rotor 12 and cyclically extend from and retract into the gate slots 20 as the rotor 12 rotates about stator 14. A plurality of demountable lobes is supported on an outer circumferential surface 24 of stator 14. The surface 24 forms a surface of the working chamber 18. Circumferential surface 24 is composed of an intermediate surface 48 which extends in an axial direction and opposite curved surfaces 46. The gate 16 has opposite rounded corners 130 separated by an axial planar surface 132. The shape and configuration of the gate 16 and corresponding is made to match that of the outer circumferential surface 24 so that when the axial surface 132 lies substantially adjacent and parallel to intermediate surface 48 each of the curved surfaces 130 lie closely adjacent to and substantially parallel with the concavely curved surfaces 46.
