    摘要: An improvement to sensor detection performance is described through use of novel least squares based (or other) sensor measurements fitting, which can significantly improve or increase the sensor Probability of Detection (Pd) while simultaneously improving or decreasing the sensor Probability of False Alarm (Pfa). Instead of just thresholding a scalar magnitude as is done in prior art signal detection methods, the new method seeks to classify time (or space, or spatio-temporal) sequenced Signal measurements from time (or space, or spatio-temporal) sequenced Noise measurements through unique features characteristic of each. The proposed method ma be implemented on most modern Radar Signal Data Processors (SDP) and therefore affords a near term, low cost opportunity to both significantly increase detection and tracking performance and/or enable ready adoption of new additional auxiliary missions currently not possible with resource constrained sensors.

    摘要: A method for the coherent integration of Fill Pulses in Pulse Doppler Radar sensors is disclosed. The present invention uses a pre- and a post-coherent waveform transmission and reception period to collect transient signals from reflections of Fill Pulses throughout the range extent. It then reassembles these signals to produce additional coherently integrable pulses of interval returns that are input to the filter and coherently integrated along with normally coherently integrated pulses. The result is an improved Signal To Noise Ratio (SNR) and Signal To Clutter Ratio (SCR) which is related to the total number of pulses emitted, including the Fill Pulses. This improvement can be obtained almost solely by signal processing in a digitally controlled Radar, and requires few if any hardware modifications.

    摘要: The present invention discloses a dual-technology sensor head tightly integrating an Electromagnetic Induction (EI) sensor coil for detection, localization and discrimination of metal in mines and Improvised Explosive Devises (IED), and a dual polarized Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radar antenna array for Ground Penetrating Radar for detection, localization and discrimination of same. The core challenge addressed is how to prevent the EI sensor from detecting the metal in the UWB antenna which then desensitizes the EI sensor and degrades its dynamic range. The key characteristic of the new UWB radar antenna design is its very low magnetic induction, thereby imposing very little degradation to the EI coil. Additionally, the UWB antenna array incorporates unique design features to enhances its low frequency performance for better penetration of the ground. Through the design guidelines taught herein the EI sensor has been demonstrated to incur no degradation from the proximate UWB array.

    摘要: An annular ablative gas blocking device provides for automatic altitude compensation of a rocket engine exhaust plume. The nozzle is over expanded at low level launch altitudes and near optimally expanded at the highest altitude at the terminal burnout or staging altitude of the rocket engine. The ablative gas blocking device in the nozzle exit mitigates low altitude launch effects of an over expanded nozzle and inhibits external atmospheric air entrance into the nozzle at launch. The gas blocking means ablatively erodes away from plume impingement as the rocket ascends in a pre-programmed manner to achieve optimum area expansion ratio at all altitudes.
