Abstract: A hybrid vehicle includes an internal combustion engine and a motor generator, wherein the internal combustion engine includes a variable compression ratio mechanism structured to vary in mechanical compression ratio depending on variation in position of a compression ratio control member structured to move due to driving of an electric actuator. A control method for the hybrid vehicle includes: measuring a state of charge of a battery connected to the motor generator; and in response to regenerative operation of the motor generator in a state that the state of charge of the battery is equal to or higher than a predetermined level, consuming generated electric power by driving the electric actuator of the variable compression ratio mechanism.

Abstract: Spark ignition engine operation at higher RPM so as to reduce alcohol requirements in high efficiency alcohol enhanced gasoline engines is disclosed. Control of engine upspeeding (use of a higher ratio of engine RPM to wheel RPM) so as to achieve an alcohol reduction objective while limiting any decrease in efficiency is described. High RPM alcohol enhanced gasoline engine operation in plug-in series hybrid powertrains for heavy duty trucks and other vehicles is also described.

In one example, a method may include, in response to PF load reaching a threshold and PF temperature being lower than the PF regeneration temperature, lowering the CR and then selectively adjusting spark timing based on an estimated residual gas fraction (RGF) at the lower CR.

Abstract: In a vehicle with an automatic transmission, an internal combustion engine is provided with a variable compression ratio mechanism. A target compression ratio of the variable compression ratio mechanism is determined based on a demand load and an engine rotation speed with reference to a compression ratio map. A reverse-drive compression ratio map is selected when the automatic transmission is in a reverse drive position; a first compression ratio map is selected when an actual speed reduction ratio of the transmission is low; and a second compression ratio map is selected when the actual speed reduction ratio of the transmission is high. A variable control range of the compression ratio is narrower in the second compression ratio map than in the first compression ratio map and is narrower in the reverse-drive compression ratio map than in the first and second compression ratio maps.
