摘要： [Problem] To easily determine the matching/mismatching between the content and index files recorded on a recording medium when turning on power.[Means for Resolution] On a recording medium 2, there are recorded content files and an index file. The index file is constituted by attribute information of the content files (title text data, thumbnail-image data or the like). In the case of changing (recording or deleting) the content file, the index file is updated after the change. A computer 4 sets up, in a nonvolatile memory 15, status information indicative of being in a predetermined process stage, in the predetermined process stage from a start of changing the content file to a termination of updating the index file. The computer 4, at turning on power, determines the matching/mismatching between the content and index files recorded on the recording medium 2 by utilizing the status information, thus repairing the index file as required.

Second index information indicating second entries corresponding to folders or content files positioned in a lower hierarchy of folders in the upper hierarchy is provided at first entries corresponding to folders in the upper hierarchy in a list format. First index information indicating the first entries is provided at the second entries.

摘要： The present invention relates to a recording apparatus and a method, a playback apparatus and a method, a recording medium, and a program capable of quickly playing back a picture associated with a unit in which a moving image is encoded. An extraction section 51 extracts one picture from each GOP. A number-of-pixels conversion section 40 reduces the amount of information of the extracted picture by thinning out pixels. A static-image compression section 41 encodes the picture whose amount of information has been reduced by a JPEG technique. A microcomputer 31 associates the encoded picture with the GOP from which the picture has been extracted and controls recording of the picture associated with the GOP onto a disk 45 on which the moving image is to be recorded. The present invention can be applied to a recording apparatus for recording a moving image onto a data recording medium.

摘要： A high speed dubbing is to be realized with two recording and/or reproducing units for compressed data. To this end, a magneto-optical disc 32 is read by an optical head 33 and compressed data produced via a decoder 41 are delivered to a memory 14 via a switch 37. The data are then delivered to a magnetic head driving circuit 16 via an encoder 15 for direct writing on a magneto-optical disc 2. In this manner, compressed data are directly dubbed without expansion to realize high speed dubbing.

In this manner, the optical disc is controlled immediately at the start time of the optical disc or at the time of track jump by the optical head so that the optical disc is driven a constant linear velocity.
