Abstract:
A differential pressure based flow sensor assembly and method of using the same to determine the rate of fluid flow in a fluid system. The sensor assembly comprises a disposable portion, and a reusable portion. A flow restricting element is positioned along a fluid flow passage between an inlet and an outlet. The disposable portion further has an upstream fluid pressure membrane and a downstream fluid pressure membrane. The reusable portion has an upstream fluid pressure sensor and a downstream fluid pressure sensor. The upstream fluid pressure sensor senses the upstream fluid pressure at a location within the fluid flow passage between the inlet and the flow restricting element. The downstream fluid pressure sensor senses the downstream fluid pressure at a location within the fluid flow passage between the flow restricting element and the outlet. The process utilizes output of the sensors to calculate the flow rate of the fluid.
Abstract:
A valve including a substantially rigid cannula and a valve member positioned for operable communication with the cannula. The valve member is formed from a substantially resilient material, having a slit extending therethrough, and movable with respect to the cannula between a first closed position and a second open position. The slit is substantially closed by the resiliency of the material of the valve member when the valve member is positioned in the first closed position and the cannula cooperates to extend through the slit during movement of the valve member from the first closed position to the second open position to establish a fluid flow path through the cannula and the valve member. A sealing member is also provided independent from a flow of fluid within the fluid flow path to provide positive sealing of the slit when the valve member is positioned in the first closed position.
Abstract:
An apparatus for facilitating assembling a length of flexible tubing on a component part which avoids the use of sealing solvents yet affords a secure placement of the tubing thereon. The apparatus and method assures a secure fitment by stretching the tubing to a predetermined dimension which is larger than the outside dimension of the portion on which the tubing is to be placed on the component part, and while in such a position the tubing is temporarily frozen by means of a coolant. An important feature in stretching the tubing to the enlarged dimension is in assuring that it is done in a uniform manner and that the stretched walls are substantially parallel to each other. This is effected by utilizing a parallel motion of jaw members which are placed within the tubing to stretch it to its expanded state. With the tubing frozen in the expanded state, it is then placed on that portion of the commodity as it normally would be and the tubing allowed to return to room temperature whereby it will attempt to assume its original diameter.

Abstract:
A single lever control for the throttle and clutch of a marine propulsion device including a housing pivotally supporting both a main control lever and an auxiliary warm-up lever, a throttle lever, and a gear shift lever. The throttle lever is alternately operable to regulate the setting of a remotely located engine throttle in response to movement of either the main control lever from a neutral position or the warm-up lever from an idle position. The gear shift lever is operable to shift an engine clutch in response to initial movement of the main control lever from the neutral position. A lock-out lever mounted inside the housing cooperates with a lock-out plate carried by the warm-up lever and with a recessed, arcuate surface on the gear shift lever to prevent movement of warm-up lever when the main control lever is displaced from the neutral position and to prevent movement of the main control lever when the warm-up lever is displaced from the idle position. In one embodiment, the locking arm of a locking mechanism carried by the main control lever cooperates with a notched index plate mounted on the exterior of the housing and coaxially with the control lever pivot axis to releasably lock the main control lever in the neutral position. In another embodiment, the index plate and the control lever are arranged to afford selective adjustment of the angular orientation of the main control lever so it will be substantially vertical when in the neutral position irrespective of the angular orientation of the housing to the horizontal.
