    摘要: This improved powder-actuated fastener driving tool includes a fastener-driving piston which is slidably housed in a reciprocating barrel. The barrel is contained in a housing member. The tool includes a movable firing pin slidably disposed in a movable breech member. A firing pin pawl is retained in a slot in the breech member to hold the firing pin in a cocked position. The firing pin is held in place in the breech member by a removable C ring disposed in a groove in the firing pin spring guide. Auxiliary gas-venting passages are disposed in the housing tool barrel adjacent a piston pawl return slot formed in the barrel. The tool includes a tapered muzzle bushing which reduces the possibility of air-firing the tool. The inner or breech end of the muzzle bushing is spaced from the muzzle end of the barrel to minimize the possibility of deformation of the muzzle bushing due to piston overdrive. The piston return pawl is biased into a tapered counter bore in the piston pawl return slot so as to hold the barrel against accidental movement to its breech-open position.

    摘要: A stereotaxic instrument is coupled to a split-screen imaging system to provide a split-screen image of the skull of the brain research subject animal along with an image of the X, Y and Z coordinates of the electrode tip (or other tool tip) being used. In addition, a third split-screen image of a recording graph displaying electrical activity recorded by an electrode may be shown. The imaging system may be a microscope/computer system or digital camera/computer system. The split-screen images may be displayed on a computer monitor or in a microscope. The system can be utilized with motor driven shift mechanisms or with manual shift mechanisms. The system allows experiments to be conducted with the subject enclosed within a Faraday cage. Remote and automatic cell searching experiments may be conducted as well.

    摘要: This improved powder-actuated fastener driving tool includes a fastener-driving piston which is slidably housed in a reciprocating barrel. The barrel is contained in a housing member. The tool includes a movable firing pin slidably disposed in a movable breech member. A firing pin pawl is retained in a slot in the breech member to hold the firing pin in a cocked position. The firing pin is held in place in the breech member by a removable C ring disposed in a groove in the firing pin spring guide. Auxiliary gas-venting passages are disposed in the housing tool barrel adjacent a piston pawl return slot formed in the barrel. The tool includes a tapered muzzle bushing which reduces the possibility of air-firing the tool. The inner or breech end of the muzzle bushing is spaced from the muzzle end of the barrel to minimize the possibility of deformation of the muzzle bushing due to piston overdrive. The piston return pawl is biased into a tapered counter bore in the piston pawl return slot so as to hold the barrel against accidental movement to its breech-open position.

    摘要: A method is presented for making a penetration test of a homogeneous ceramic material which includes driving a cylindrical hardened steel probe pin of a predetermined configuration into the material to be tested. At the beginning of the test, the pin is snugly assembled in an enclosing tubular cylinder with a flattened end of the pin in registration with one end of the cylinder. After the pin is driven into the material to be tested by use of a closely controlled powder charge in a suitable gun, while holding the tubular cylinder, one may accurately measure the penetration where the flat end of the pin has penetrated the surrounding cylindrical tube. The novel probe pin assembly includes the probe pin assembled in an embracing tube member.

    摘要: A synthetic insulation material that rivals and surpasses down in performance without suffering degradation in insulating power over time. The material is an aggregate of particulate units that have a fractal-like geometric configuration. The geometric configuration includes non-integer dimensionality that promotes physical entanglements of the particulate units. The physical entanglements impart a high frictional resistance to slippage of the particulate units to maintain loft over time by inhibiting the settling of particulate units upon compression. The geometric configuration further includes aspects of self-similarity. The particulate units are formed from a material that efficiently scatters thermal radiation. The combination of high loft and efficient scattering of thermal radiation minimizes heat loss resulting from conduction and radiation, leads to a superior material for thermal insulation, has excellent health characteristics for human and the environment, and exhibits excellent long term life cycle performance.

    摘要: Commercial metalized plastic film, in the form of discarded containers or container stock, is collected, cleaned, shredded and packaged, to produce an insulating layer having a high thermal resistance, or R-value, no outgassing of volatile compounds at habitable temperatures, and multiple reusability after deployment. Each step in the sequence is designed to minimize unit cost of the process, as well as maximize the thermal resistance of the finished product. The invention largely avoids disintegration of the recycled material, and hence utilizes the embedded energy already present in the construction of the original film.

    摘要: This powder actuated tool is designed to fire high power loads, such as 32 caliber blanks, to drive a member into a concrete surface. The tool has a housing and a reciprocating barrel mounted on the housing. The firing mechanism is contained in a breech block which is reciprocable in the housing. The cartridge chamber is disposed in the breech end of the barrel in a member which is freely slidably removable from the barrel in a breechward direction. The member is provided with empty external gas sealing grooves which prevent substantial breechward movement of the cartridge chamber member when the tool is fired. There is no mechanical lock between the breech block and the breech end of the barrel. Reciprocal movement of the barrel is controlled by guide lugs on the muzzle end of the housing and mating guide slots formed in the exterior of the barrel. The lugs and mating slots allow longitudinal and pivotal movement of the barrel assembly between breech closed and breech open positions and also allow rotational movement of the barrel when in its breech closed position. The rotational movement is required before the tool can be cocked for firing. The slots also allow the barrel assembly to be completely removed from the housing without the use of any special tools.
