    摘要: A method and apparatus for recording data at specific locations on a DVD includes selectively detecting the occurrence of wobble sync during a window computed from previous occurrences of wobble sync and eight-to-fourteen modulation sync. The method and apparatus also uses a phase-locked loop to recover the wobble signal, including wobble sync, and computes phase drift between wobble sync and eight-to-fourteen modulation sync and applies a compensation profile, compatible with a read clock phase-locked loop, to the wobble phase-locked loop.

    摘要: In a device that utilizes a memory device, the access bandwidth of the memory device is efficiently utilized by determining a set of operations to be performed on information stored in the memory device, and sorting the operations into an order so as to minimize the number of accesses to the memory device to perform the operations. The sorted operations are then performed in that order. An example of such a device is an error correction decoder, such as for use with an optical disk reader or player. The error correction decoder generates error correction data, representing error correction operations, and sorts the error correction data into multiple sets, each set for correcting the errors in a respective row of an ECC block stored in an external buffer. The error correction operations are then performed row by row.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus are provided for detecting and correcting magnification errors while simultaneously reading or writing multiple data tracks with a multi-beam optical disk drive. An optical head for the optical disk drive includes a plurality of laser diodes that generate multiple light beams for reading from or writing to the optical disk, means for detecting a magnification error, and means for compensating for the magnification error to align the multiple light beams with multiple data tracks. A number of opto-mechanical systems are provided for correcting the magnification errors in the beams.

    摘要: Focussing system methods and apparatus are provided for apparatus capable of simultaneously reading multiple tracks of an optical disk. Astigmatism introduced by a cylindrical lens disposed adjacent to the light source, or before the focus detectors arranged at the edge of a wide-area field of illumination, is used to compute an error signal corresponding to the degree of out-of-focus, which error signal is provided to a servo-system that moves the objective lens to correct the focus. An alternative embodiment employs a pair of focus detectors and a pair of micro-lenses having different focal lengths that directs the reflected light onto the focus detectors to generate a focus correction signal. Further alternative embodiments of employing the astigmatism method of focussing are described.
