摘要: A surgical device includes a first fastener having a planar profile, a second fastener having a concave surface, and a suture that can be manipulated to change a distance between the first and second fasteners. The second fastener has a curvature that substantially matches the curvature of a top surface of a clavicle bone in a direction perpendicular to a long axis of the clavicle bone. A method of treating an acromioclavicular joint injury includes forming axially aligned passages through a patient's clavicle and coracoid process, passing a fastener having a concave surface through the passages, positioning the concave surface of the fastener against a top surface of the patient's clavicle with a long axis of the fastener extending perpendicular to a long axis of the clavicle, positioning a fastener having a planar profile below the patient's coracoid process, and adjusting a suture that couples the fasteners.

摘要: In hardware, performing computations on a stream typically requires handshaking signals to provide flow control. Many different handshaking protocols are available, and they are typically implemented in an ad hoc manner suited to the current design. An approach according to the invention uses a subset of the possible flow-control protocols in an effort to achieve a maximum amount of flexibility and reusability, while requiring only a moderate level of overhead when compared to manually-designed systems.

摘要: A surgical instrument includes first and second members configured to receive tissue therebetween. The first member is adapted to receive suture, the second member is coupled to the first member, and a grasper coupled to the second member engages the suture received by the first member. A method of passing suture includes loading suture into a first member of a suture passing surgical instrument, stabilizing tissue between the first member and a second member of the surgical instrument, passing suture through tissue via the first member of the surgical instrument, holding the passed suture via a suture grasper of the surgical instrument, and removing the first member from the tissue.

摘要: A method of sterile capping a plurality of I.V. bottles with temporary sterile caps. A plurality of caps are provided in a single sterile package, which package is opened within the confines of a sterile working environment and the caps distributed face-up on a working surface. Packing caps are removed from I.V. bottles within the sterile environment and dilutant added to the bottles. The bottles are then sequentially inverted and press-fit into corresponding temporary caps to achieve a sterile sealing relationship between the bottles and caps.The described method results in a large savings of preparation time, produces less litter, and eliminates a bruised or "red" palm problem encountered in the prior art.

摘要: A system and method of automatically collecting data contained within an EDI file that accompanies a shipment of a regulated pharmaceutical product so as to comply with federal and state regulations. Application software is run by a computer system that automatically reads an incoming EDI file. The application software parses the EDI file in search of trigger attributes that include shipment headlines, order headlines and item headlines. The application software reads shipment data from a first set of attributes that follows said shipment headlines. Likewise, the application software reads order data from a second set of attributes that follows the order headlines and reads item data from a third set of attributes that follows the item headlines. The data collected includes the data required for statutory tracking, such as lot number, expiration date, product name, product manufacturer, and chain of ownership. This data is saved as searchable variables in a database.
