Abstract: A brace for restricting the movement of a shoulder joint, the brace including a trunk module attachable to a human body, wherein the trunk module includes a strap for attaching the brace to the body; and at least one first part of a locking mechanism; a forearm module pivotable relative to the trunk module, the forearm module further including a second part of a locking mechanism capable of engaging and disengaging with said first part of the locking mechanism; and a posterior upper arm support attached to the trunk module in a fixed position; wherein in a first orientation the at least one first part of the locking mechanism is engaged with the second part of the locking mechanism; and wherein in a second orientation the at least one first part of the locking mechanism is disengaged from the second part of the locking mechanism.

Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein include systems and methods for a bone screw and self-retaining driver. The system includes a mechanism that enables a bone screw to be rigidly attached to a screwdriver for manipulation and transfer of bone fragments and grafts to a fixation site, such as during surgery. The system includes a cannulated bone screw that has a drive connection that engages with a drive structures of a screwdriver. The bone screw also includes a structural connector that securely attaches to or receives an internal shaft or rod of the screwdriver. The internal shaft or rod of the screwdriver can rotate and slide independent of an outer shaft of screwdriver. Accordingly, the internal shaft of the screwdriver can rigidly connect with the bone screw enabling applied torque to the screwdriver to be transferred to the bone screw, without the bone screw falling off of the drive connection.

Abstract: A drill guide includes a body, a stabilizing member, a tubular guide sleeve, and an engagement member. The body includes a first channel aligned with a longitudinal axis and a second channel transverse to the longitudinal axis. The first channel is dimensioned to receive the sleeve, while the second channel is dimensioned to receive an engagement member. The engagement member is adapted to move within the second channel between an engaged position, where the engagement member inhibits proximal motion of the sleeve, and a second position, where motion of the sleeve is not inhibited. An alignment member is further mounted to the distal end of the sleeve that includes a distally extending member, spaced from the sleeve. In use, the distally extending member may be employed to exert a force upon a bone or other tissue lateral to the longitudinal axis for improved positioning of the bone or tissue.

Abstract: Method and set of surgical instruments for fitting a shoulder prosthesis, and the shoulder prosthesis. The proposed method seeks to interpose a bone graft between the previously prepared glenoid surface of a scapula of a patient's shoulder and the face of a glenoid prosthetic component opposite the articular surface. Abstract: A set of humeral components for a total shoulder prosthesis, wherein each component is formed by an anchoring stem and a metaphyseal part which defines a concave surface of articulation in the form of a portion of a sphere. The offset between an axis of symmetry of this surface and a central axis of the metaphyseal part varies between the different components of the set. Abstract: This total shoulder prosthesis comprises a glenoidal component, defining a substantially hemispherical convex articular surface and of which the centre of curvature is located in the glenoid cavity or in the immediate vicinity thereof, and a humeral component defining a concave articular surface adapted to cooperate with the convex articular surface of the glenoidal component. The concave humeral articular surface is defined by a metallic part of the humeral component, this avoiding having to resort to a part made of plastics material which would increase the space requirement of the prosthesis.

A method of treating an acromioclavicular joint injury includes forming axially aligned passages through a patient's clavicle and coracoid process, passing a fastener having a concave surface through the passages, positioning the concave surface of the fastener against a top surface of the patient's clavicle with a long axis of the fastener extending perpendicular to a long axis of the clavicle, positioning a fastener having a planar profile below the patient's coracoid process, and adjusting a suture that couples the fasteners.
