Abstract:
A surgical device includes a first fastener having a planar profile, a second fastener having a concave surface, and a suture that can be manipulated to change a distance between the first and second fasteners. The second fastener has a curvature that substantially matches the curvature of a top surface of a clavicle bone in a direction perpendicular to a long axis of the clavicle bone. A method of treating an acromioclavicular joint injury includes forming axially aligned passages through a patient's clavicle and coracoid process, passing a fastener having a concave surface through the passages, positioning the concave surface of the fastener against a top surface of the patient's clavicle with a long axis of the fastener extending perpendicular to a long axis of the clavicle, positioning a fastener having a planar profile below the patient's coracoid process, and adjusting a suture that couples the fasteners.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a two-piece implant. The implant includes a first piece having at least two prongs and a protrusion located between the prongs and a second piece coupled to the first piece, wherein the second piece is configured to rotate relative to the first piece. A method of tissue repair is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A stroke length regulating apparatus for use with plunging dispensers such as syringes includes a device for compressing the plunging dispenser consisting of a pair of supports movable relative to one another, a device for arresting relative displacement of the pair of supports at a selected end point which includes a threaded metering rod fixed near one end thereof to one of the supports, an elastically deformable nut having internal threads threadably engagable with the threaded metering rod along the length thereof, and a device for permitting temporary elastic deformation of the elastic deformable nut so as to disengage threads on the elastically deformable nut from threads on the metering rod, whereby to permit free movement of tile pair of supports relative to one another for stroke length adjustment of the dispenser.
Abstract:
The oxygen-selectivity of an atomic emission detection system is enhanced by introducing a carbon-containing, preferably non-oxygenated, gas as a portion of the reagent gas. In preferred embodiments, the reagent gas is nitrogen and/or hydrogen and up to about 50 volume percent of a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydrocarbon gas.

Abstract:
In hardware, performing computations on a stream typically requires handshaking signals to provide flow control. Many different handshaking protocols are available, and they are typically implemented in an ad hoc manner suited to the current design. An approach according to the invention uses a subset of the possible flow-control protocols in an effort to achieve a maximum amount of flexibility and reusability, while requiring only a moderate level of overhead when compared to manually-designed systems.
Abstract:
Data objects are organized into attributes and can be acted upon using predefined actions and associated types to greatly simplify user accessibility to such data objects through the limited user interface and bandwidth capabilities of a mobile device. Each data object is associated with a numerical identifier such that the user can easily identify a data object of interest using the limited data entry capabilities of the typical mobile device.
Abstract:
A surgical instrument includes first and second members configured to receive tissue therebetween. The first member is adapted to receive suture, the second member is coupled to the first member, and a grasper coupled to the second member engages the suture received by the first member. A method of passing suture includes loading suture into a first member of a suture passing surgical instrument, stabilizing tissue between the first member and a second member of the surgical instrument, passing suture through tissue via the first member of the surgical instrument, holding the passed suture via a suture grasper of the surgical instrument, and removing the first member from the tissue.
