摘要: A deformable label processor and related methods are described. The processor is heated and urged against a label, such as a heat transfer label, to apply one or more designs from the label onto a container or other surface. The processor and methods are well suited for application of labels onto compound curved surfaces. Also described are high volume label application processes using assemblies of multiple label processors. Additional assemblies and methods are described for selectively contacting and adhering regions of a label onto a moving container during labeling operations.

摘要: A label applicator system is described comprising one or more, and preferably two, assemblies of rollers and belts. The assemblies are arranged relative to one another such that at least a portion of the belts of each assembly are aligned with one another to define an article receiving lane. The assemblies are arranged and configured such that the lane extends in a zig-zag path, a relatively straight path, and/or an arcuate path. Selection of the lane geometry along with appropriate control of belt velocities enable high rates of applying labels to articles and particularly containers having compound curves.

摘要: A deformable label processor and related methods are described. The processor is heated and urged against a label, such as a pressure sensitive heat shrink label, to apply the label onto a container or other surface. The processor and methods are well suited for application of labels onto compound curved surfaces. Also described are high volume label application processes using assemblies of multiple label processors. Additional assemblies and methods are described for selectively contacting and adhering regions of a label onto a moving container during labeling operations. Select regions of a label can be wiped to modify or alter label portions that are in contact and not in contact with the container. A label treatment process performed after label application is also disclosed. The treatment process reduces the occurrence of label defects and improves label retention, adherence and aesthetics. The treatment process includes heating an applied label and adhesive to a particular temperature. In particular, the heating is performed immediately after label application.

摘要: This invention relates to a lamination comprising: a substrate having a first side and a second side; a thermally responsive coating layer overlying said first side of said substrate, said thermally responsive coating layer being capable of forming an image when heat is selectively applied to said thermally responsive coating layer; a light transmissive protective layer overlying said thermally responsive coating layer, said light transmissive protective layer having an image receiving surface and being capable of transmitting heat applied thereto to said thermally responsive coating layer; and an adhesive layer positioned between said light transmissive protective layer and said thermally responsive coating layer. In one embodiment, the lamination further comprises another light transmissive protective layer positioned between the thermally responsive coating layer and the adhesive layer. In one embodiment, the lamination further comprises an ink or graphics layer adhered to the image receiving surface of the light transmissive protective layer. In one embodiment, the lamination further comprises a friction reducing coating layer overlying the light transmissive protective layer. In one embodiment, the lamination further comprises a layer of a pressure sensitive adhesive overlying the second side of the substrate. In one embodiment, the lamination further comprises a release liner overlying the foregoing layer of pressure sensitive. The lamination has dual image receiving capability and provides protection against one or more of excessive moisture, chemicals, abrasions or ultraviolet light. A process for making the foregoing lamination is disclosed.
