    摘要: A process for preparing microgel(s) that uses a wide range of activatable prepolymers. In the process, a polymer composition of crosslinked component A and soluble components B and C is formed from mono-olefinic and multi-olefinic monomers in the presence of catalyst and initiator. The process comprises: I) introducing mono-olefinic monomer, catalyst, and initiator into a reactor in the absence of multi-olefinic monomer and producing an activatable prepolymer, component B; II) contacting the product of I) with multi-olefinic monomer to produce components A and C, optionally in the presence of additional initiator; also optionally in the presence of additional mono-olefinic monomer and initiator. The ratio of components A/(B+C) can be controlled by varying the mole ratio of The Component B/multi-olefinic monomer from 0.05/1 up to 5/1, by decreasing the mole ratio to increase the ratio of A/(B+C), and increasing the mole ratio to decrease the ratio of A/(B+C).

    摘要: A system for testing various properties of a viscoelastic material includes a balanced beam supporting an anvil upon which the material is placed, the balanced beam having a fixed state and a movable state, a load assembly for applying a static load to the material when the balanced beam is in a movable state and inducing an initial static strain on the material when the beam is in a fixed state, a hammer opposite the anvil for applying a dynamic strain to the material, a first sensor which senses the dynamic strain applied to the material by the hammer when the balanced beam is in the fixed state, a load cell which detects the force response of the material to the initial static strain and the dynamic strain when the balanced beam is in the fixed state, and a second sensor which senses permanent dimensional changes in the material when the balanced beam is in the movable state.

    摘要: An electrosurgical apparatus comprises an electrosurgical generator for producing cutting and coagulation signals and has either pedal operated or hand operated switches for switching on and off and between cutting and coagulation signals. A cutting and coagulation probe is energized by the generator and has a handle portion and a probe element. An on/off switch controls energization of the probe element. A switch is operated to switch the probe element between the cutting current and coagulation current. A holder member removably supports the probe element and has an electric socket therein. The probe element is removably supported in the holder member and has an electric connector cooperable with the holder member socket to complete an electric connection to the probe element. An electric connector connects the probe element to the electrosurgical generator circuit. The on/off switch may be in the holder element or in a pedal operated switch. The switch controlling application of cutting current and coagulation current may also be either in the holder element or in a pedal operated switch. The probe may be a hollow tubular member having an opening at one end adapted for connection by hollow tubing to a source of vacuum and having an arrangement for selective application of vacuum at the cutting end thereof.

    摘要: A vacuum apparatus for surgical aspirators comprises a motor and vacuum pump on a supporting base with an evacuated chamber surrounding them to reduce noise produced by the apparatus. The apparatus preferably comprises first and second hollow housings of one or more wall members defining an enclosure surrounding the motor and pump, the wall members of said housings spaced apart to define a vacuum chamber around the motor and vacuum pump. The enclosure has an opening to surrounding atmosphere through the supporting base or through a sealed opening through the housings. The pump outlet communicates with surrounding atmosphere. A passageway connects the vacuum chamber both to the vacuum pump inlet and the exterior of the apparatus. Operation of said motor and pump is effective to withdraw air from the chamber to produce a vacuum therein supplied for use through the passageway, the vacuum is the reservoir being sufficient for use over a period of time and providing sound insulation against noise produced by the apparatus. The apparatus has pressure responsive valves for (1) preventing flow of air into the vacuum chamber when the surgical cannula is removed, (2) closing off the vacuum chamber from the surgical cannula when the vacuum is insufficient and causing the vacuum pump to work directly on the surgical cannula, and (3) shutting down the motor when the vacuum reaches a selected level.
