The instant invention comprises a hydroprocessing method having at least two stages. The first stage employs a hydroprocessing catalyst which may contain hydrotreating catalyst, hydrocracking catalyst, or a combination of both. The second stage is limited to hydrocracking. Conversion in the second stage may be improved by the addition of multiple reaction zones for hydrocracking, with flash separation zones between the stages. Middle distillate yield is thereby increased and the volume of the recycle stream is reduced. This invention reduces the need for equipment which would normally be required for a large recycle stream.

In one aspect, a method for rendering biomass-derived pyrolysis oil miscible with refinery hydrocarbons comprises mixing a high oxygen content bio-oil having an oxygen content of at least about 10 wt. % with a low oxygen content bio-oil having an oxygen content of less than about 8 wt. % to produce a blended oil. The blended oil may be hydrotreated to produce a deoxygenated hydrotreated mixture from which water is removed using a separator, resulting in a low oxygen content hybrid bio-oil intermediate miscible in refinery process streams. A portion of the low oxygen content hybrid bio-oil intermediate may be recycled with the high oxygen content bio-oil or removed for use in a refinery process stream for further hydroprocessing.

A process is described by which an olefinic naphtha and a hydrogenated distillate fuel are made from a Fischer-Tropsch process. The olefinic naphtha is suitable for use in an ethylene cracker where the olefins enhance the formation of ethylene. Thy hydrogenated distillate fuel is used in jet and or diesel fuels. Optionally the olefinic naphtha has a low content of acids. This low acid content, is obtained by operating the Fischer-Tropsch unit at H2/CO ratios from 1.8 to 2.05 or treating the effluent from the Fischer-Tropsch unit with a metal oxide to remove the acids.

A process is disclosed for producing light neutral base oil having a VI greater than 120 comprising the steps of contacting a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock with a catalyst comprising a low acidity, highly dealuminated ultrastable Y zeolite and a catalytic amount of hydrogenation component to produce a converted fraction and an unconverted fraction boiling above 700° F.; recovering at least a portion of the unconverted fraction; dewaxing at least a portion of the unconverted fraction; separating at least a portion of the dewaxed unconverted fraction into a least a first distillate fraction and a second distillate fraction, said first distillate fraction comprising a lubricating base oil having a viscosity of from about 3 cSt to about 6 cSt at 100° C. and said second distillate fraction having a viscosity of greater than about 6 cSt at 100° C.; and recovering at least a portion of the first distillate fraction.
