A device and method for temporarily maintaining a voltage level in a control circuit for auxiliary devices in a textile spinning machine, winding machine or the like wherein the control circuit is connected to an intermediate direct current circuit that is in series between a line voltage and the drive motors of the machine. The method includes reversibly supplying current from the intermediate circuit to the motors and inversely supplying current generated by the residual inertial energy of the motors to the intermediate circuit. The supplying of reversible current is controlled in response to a drop in line voltage to maintain the voltage level of the intermediate circuit and therefore of the control circuit supplying auxiliary devices. The controlling includes sensing a drop in line voltage and generating and transmitting control signals to reversibly supply current. The device functions to perform the method by providing a two-way converter for supplying current to the motors under normal operation and reversibly supplying current generated by the residual inertial energy of the motors in response to a drop in line voltage, a sensing device senses a drop in line voltage, and another component generates control signals for transmitting to the two-way converter for reversing thereof.

A open-end spinning assembly includes a silver insertion device, a fiber separating device, a fiber guide device, a fiber collector for collecting, aligning and imparting a rotational movement onto fibers and subsequently applying the fibers to an open yarn end, and a draw-off device drawing-off yarn from the yarn collector. A fed-back yarn end is applied to a piecing fiber quantity fed into fiber collector for forming a piecer. The yarn is continuously drawn-off from the fiber collector and fibers and continuously fed into the fiber collector. A method for monitoring the piecers includes automatically measuring diameter values relative to the longitudinal axis of the yarn for the piecer and for yarn lengths upstream and downstream of the piecer having at least substantially the length of the piecer. The diameter values are electronically stored in memory and compared with comparison values for producing a comparison result. Intervention options are derived from the comparison result for improving future piecers and especially for improving the piecer profile. A piecer monitoring device includes a first device for automatically measuring the diameter values. A second device electronically stores the measured diameter values relative to length in memory. A third device compares the measured diameter values relative to length with comparison values. A fourth device derives intervention options for improving the piecer profile of future piecers.

Bobbins spun in a ring spinning machine are conveyed sequentially to a measuring, counting and sorting device located between the ring spinning machine and an automatic winder that winds yarn from the bobbins. The measuring, counting and sorting device senses the presence of a bobbin, counts the bobbins being sensed, senses yarn and bobbin characteristics and compares the characteristics with predetermined standards. The device separates bobbins whose characteristics differ from the standard. Data regarding the operation of the spinning machine and operation of the winding machine are combined with the data obtained by the measuring, counting and sorting device and statistically evaluated for display or for controlling the production of the spinning machine and winding machine or for controlling conveyance of the packages from the winding machine.

A method for sorting cheeses on an automatic winding machine includes predetermining a set-point value ratio of yarn length to cheese diameter. An actual value ratio of yarn length to cheese diameter is automatically measured. The measured values are automatically compared with the set-point values. Cheeses for which the actual value ratio of yarn length to cheese diameter is within a predetermined range of the set-point value ratio are automatically selected as quality cheeses.
