摘要： A smoke detector having a sound quality enhancement chamber for increasing the sound quality of alarms produced by a sound producing device in the smoke detector. In at least one embodiment, the sound quality enhancement chamber is formed by a housing and a plate such that the chamber is in communication with a sound producing device, which may be a speaker, for producing sounds, such as a human voice, with enhanced quality. The sound quality enhancement chamber acts as a spring and increases the quality of the sounds produced by the sound producing device of the smoke detector. In at least one embodiment, the sound quality enhancement chamber enables a smoke detector to emit a parent's voice that is clear and easily understandable.

摘要： An applicator for dispensing tape, with the tape having an adhesive on at least one face. The applicator includes a shell with a pivotably attached door. A tape cartridge is received within the door. The cartridge supports a roll of the tape, and a leading edge of the tape extends outwardly from the roll. A partial cylindrical cover member is connected to the first end of the shell for pivotable movement thereabout along a predetermined path to cover the a first passageway. A slider having a first end which is pivotally connected to the cover member and having a button which extends through a first slot in the shell is movable between a first position, in which the cover member covers the first passageway, and a second position, in which the cover member is removed from the first passageway. A cutter actuator is located on the slider and is movable in response to inward pressure on the button when the slider is in the second position. A cutting tool is pivotally connected to the shell. The cutting tool is movable from a first position to a second position, in which the cutting instrument extends through the first passageway, by the application of inward pressure to the button on the slider.

摘要： Optical interconnection methods for high-speed data-rate optical transport systems are disclosed that optically interconnect active assemblies to a fiber optic cable in a polarization-preserving manner. The methods include defining active-assembly-wise connector ports that connect to active assembly transmit and receive ports, and defining or establishing a pairings method between the active-assembly-wise connector ports. In a first optical interconnection assembly, an active-assembly-wise port is optically connected to a cable-wise port. In the second optical interconnection assembly, the cable-wise port that corresponds to the connected cable-wise port in the first optical interconnection assembly is optically connected to a select active-assembly-wise port as defined by the pairings method. The optical connection process is then repeated from the second to the first optical interconnection assembly. The optical interconnection acts are repeated until all of the active-assembly-wise ports are connected.

摘要： Cables and an apparatus and methods for making cables having at least one messenger section, transmission sections, and at least two series of connecting webs. At least one series of webs can be intermittently formed. The messenger sectioncan include a messenger wire for supporting the cable, and the transmission sections can include electrical/electronic and/or optical transmission components. A method of making cables may include the steps of pulling cable components through a melt cavity having a molten jacketing material therein; defining at least three cable sections by coating the cable components with the molten jacketing material; monolithically forming at least two series of connecting webs made of the molten jacketing material between each cable section during a web-forming mode; and defining intermittent webs by forming longitudinal gaps between the webs of at least one of the series of webs during a gap-forming mode by switching between the web-forming and gap-forming modes with respect to the at least one series of webs. The apparatus includes a melt cavity associated with a die orifice having web-forming sections, and gap forming parts associated with the web-forming sections, the gap forming parts being operative to block the flow of the cable jacketing material for forming gaps defining the webs.

摘要： An applicator for dispensing tape is disclosed. The applicator comprises a shell and a cover that is used as a knob for moving an instrument of a cutting tool for cutting the tape. In operation, the cover is rotated and moved in a counterclockwise direction to cause one of its ends to find its way into a passageway allowing it to contact a lever member which, in turn, contacts an arm member of the cutting tool thereby causing the adhesive tape to be severed thereat. The applicator is shaped, contoured, and sized so as to be manipulated by a single hand of a user and the cover member is mechanized so that the applicator only exposes the tape to the outside environment during the usage of the tape and, thereby, retards the tape from being subjected to contaminants.

摘要： An apparatus and method for sorting documents is provided. A document transport on the apparatus conveys documents along a selected path of movement from an input bin to a series of output bins. An optical scanner, such as a video camera, is positioned along the selected path to capture images of the documents. The captured images are displayed on a display monitor to permit an operator to inspect portions of the documents for a desired characteristic. The operator activates a push button on a selector switch depending on the presence of the desired characteristic. Bins are provided for stacking and separating documents having the desired characteristic from those documents lacking the desired characteristic. Gates are provided for directing the documents to the appropriate output bin.
