    摘要: A mechanism is disclosed for receiving a disk cartridge and guiding the cartridge to an operating position within a disk drive, and for subsequently ejecting the cartridge when its use is complete, all responsive to the opening and closing of the disk drive door. The mechanism for ejecting the cartridge also automatically opens a transducer head access door when the cartridge is inserted into the receiver, and automatically closes the door upon cartridge ejection. Improvements are also disclosed in the manner of mounting a lift collar designed to support the disk and hub within a cartridge, and for an improved method of adjusting the cartridge to operate alternatively in write protect and write enable modes.

    摘要: A filter cartridge for filtering fluid, such as air, within an enclosed housing, such as a disk drive, comprises a toroidal body having a pair of mating confronting halves fastened together. A pair of annular sheets of filter media are sandwiched between the halves and are separated by a ring member to engage each sheet of filter material against a respective one of the confronting halves. Fluid to be filtered flows radially through the cartridge to flow through at least two portions of the filter media. Optionally, a third sheet of filter material may be supported by the ring member to provide additional filtering.

The tubular gasket has a first end adjacent the overlapping portion and a second end adjacent the overlapping portion; the second end communicates with a main body portion of the tubular gasket to seal the enclosure upon securing the top cover to the basedeck with a top cover fastener.

    摘要: An actuator latch cooperating with a magnetic assembly for latching an actuator assembly of a data storage device is provided. The magnetic assembly includes a magnet secured to one of a pair of pole pieces. The actuator latch includes a latch body adjacent the magnet assembly; a forward arm extending in a first direction from the latch body, a first ferromagnetic member supported by the forward arm disposed between the pair of pole pieces interacting with the magnet to maintain the actuator assembly in an un-latched position during operation of the data storage device; a trailing arm extending in a second direction from the latch body; and a pair of ferromagnetic members supported by the trailing arm disposed between the pair of pole pieces interacting with the magnet to secure the actuator assembly in a latched position during non-operation of the data storage device.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for minimizing the effects of rotational and translational vibrations on a disc drive. A plurality of isolation devices are integrated into a base deck of the disc drive at industry standard locations. Each isolation device includes a rigid threaded collar into which a corresponding fastener is inserted to secure the base to a user environment, a compliant elastomer portion disposed between the collar and remaining portions of the base deck and a rigid stiffener which contacts and surrounds at least a portion of an outer surface of the elastomer portion. Stiffnesses of the elastomer portions are individually selected so that the plurality of isolation devices cooperate to reduce the effects of various translational and rotational vibratory inputs by bunching resonance modes within a selected frequency range.

    摘要: Apparatus for protecting a disc drive from damage due to non-operational mechanical shocks, the disc drive comprising a rotatable disc having an inner radius and an outer radius and a controllably rotatable actuator adjacent the disc. A snubber is provided adjacent the disc, the snubber having a body portion rigidly affixed with respect to the disc and snubber arms connected to the body portion. The snubber arms extend from the body portion towards the disc and above and below the elevation of the disc, with each snubber arm having a distal end located at a position adjacent the disc between the inner and the outer radii of the disc and towards the. outer radius of the disc. The height of each snubber arm limits deflection of the disc at the outer radius of the disc as a result of mechanical shock forced supplied to the disc drive assembly.

    摘要: A peripherally extending acoustic compliance area in a disc drive housing which reduces emission of acoustic noise by the disc drive. The housing includes first and second plates and side walls which cooperate to form an enclosure for an excitation source disposed within the housing. At least a selected one of the plates has a contact point to which the excitation source is mechanically coupled, a first portion of the selected plate surrounding the contact point and a second portion thereof disposed between the first portion and an outer perimeter of the selected plate, with the second portion having an increased compliance with respect to the first portion. The increased compliance can be formed by reducing the thickness of the second portion. Damping material can be additionally supported by the second portion to provide further acoustic noise reduction.
