    摘要: The invention relates to a fluid clutch of the kind comprising cooperating vaned pump and turbine elements between which toroidal power-transmitting liquid vortices are established. At least part of the vanes of one of the elements is movable between clutch engaged and disengaged portions through a wall of the element into a reservoir on the other side of the wall. This reservoir also serves as a stall reservoir into which working liquid is fed automatically upon the existence of a stall condition of the element, so as to reduce the torque transmission capacity to a value preventing stalling of the prime mover.

    摘要: A fluid clutch of the kind comprising cooperating radiallyvaned pump and turbine elements has at least a portion of each vane of one of the sets of vanes of the pump and turbine elements movable either by axial motion or by pivoting motion under an external operator's control within an external enclosure formed between the outside face of the respective element and an annular shell rotatable therewith. Disengagement of the clutch is effected by the said motion which withdraws the movable vanes or vane portions from the working circuit into the said external enclosure, so that the power transmitting vortices usually produced by the vanes cannot be maintained. The clutch turbine may be provided with a device which can apply some rotational friction thereto when the clutch is fully disengaged, in order to stop the turbine fully against residual fluid friction in the working circuit.

    摘要: An x-ray cassette positioner for use with a plurality of x-ray cassettes. The cassette positioner includes first and second conveyors. The conveyors have a first endless cogbelt and a second endless cogbelt, respectively. The cogbelts are spaced apart. The cogbelts each have a plurality of outwardly extending shelves. The conveyors each have a pair of cogwheels, each pair of cogwheels receives a respective cogbelt. The cogbelts each have a utilization segment and a return segment. The shelves of the utilization segment of said first cogbelt face and are in vertical alignment with corresponding shelves of the utilization segment of the second cogbelt. The aligned shelves define a cassette read site and a plurality of cassette loading sites. A positive drive is operatively connected to both conveyors and drives the conveyors in unison to transfer cassettes loaded in the loading sites serially through the loading sites and the read site. A body encases the conveyors. The body has a portal adjoining the cassette sites. The shelves of the cogbelts have an upper support surface for supporting a cassette of a first size and a lower support surface disposed below and adjacent the upper support surface for supporting a cassette of smaller size.

    摘要: Novel methods for the continuous manufacturing of radial flow ceramic matal rotor bodies for rotary type regenerator heat exchange apparatus, and novelly constructed rotor bodies made by and reflecting the characteristics of the novel methods.The novel methods basically comprise preferably the continuous assembling of predetermined numbers of axially arranged, sequential, radially grooved layers of unfired ceramic media, with sequentially touching layers coacting to collectively form outwardly flaring fluid gas passageways, disposed in a 360.degree. continuous radially oriented manner extending uniformly around the open center passageway through the rotor body. Respective steps of some of the novel methods include using tapered pairs of coacting corrugating rollers, and tapered pairs of groove-embossing rollers, both forms of which the apparatus and procedures collectively impart a spiral-like or helical path to the media material from which the rotor bodies are constructed, and thereafter continuously helically collecting the respective corrugated and grooved media alone or in combination with other media until a predetermined length of rotor body is built-up. The unfired assembled bodies are subsequently fired to achieve the finished hardness of usable rotor bodies. As a result of the firing step, the sequential body layers and any ancillary similar ceramic material components integrally fuse into basically a one piece rotor body which when in operative service is much better able to withstand rapidly fluctuating high temperature range changes with minimal distortion.

    摘要: In a hydraulic coupling the pump element is provided with an annular reservoir rotatable therewith, the reservoir having its interior divided into separate analogization and stall compartments by a weir. A first set of catches feeds liquid from the working chamber into the analogization compartment and the volume which can remain therein is controlled by speed sensitive valves which feed excess liquid into the stall compartment from wherein it returns to the working chamber. The valve control the filling of the working chamber so that the power transmission capacity of the coupling is maintained analogous with the power output of the associated prime mover at that speed. Upon the existence of stall conditions with the turbine element a second set of radially-inward catches are engaged by the working liquid and fill the stall compartment to almost empty the working compartment and permit the coupling to continue operating without dangerous overload of itself or the prime mover.
