A digital music player comprises physiological sensors, a controller, a user interface, a music decoder, a music playback modulator, and an audio data store. The user interface allows a user to specify target values for the physiological sensors as a function of time, the controller selects a playlist of audio data based on the target values, the music decoder decodes the audio data in a sequence corresponding to the playlist, and the music playback modulator causes the sequence and/or the decoding to be modified according to the values of the physiological sensor.

An apparatus and method for detecting and/or controlling subterranean termites. A station at least partially receivable within a cavity has at least one opening therein to provide access by the termites to an interior volume of the station. The apparatus includes an aggregation base attractive to the termites and including at least one void for forming an aggregation site. The apparatus includes a replaceable container received within the interior volume of the station and positioned adjacent the aggregation base. The container has at least one opening in a surface thereof facing the aggregation base to permit the passage of termites from the aggregation base to an interior chamber of the container. The container is sized and shaped such that the container may be removed from the station with minimal disturbance to the aggregation base, thereby preserving any aggregation site formed by the termites.

A tool for removing a cap from a pest control device includes a hub and at least four fingers depending from the hub in circumferentially spaced relationship with each other to cooperatively define a socket for receiving the cap within the tool. The fingers are resiliently moveable transversely outward relative to the hub upon receiving the cap into the socket whereby the fingers are biased transversely inward against a sidewall of the cap when the cap is received in the socket. A plurality of stops extends from fewer than all of the fingers laterally inward of the socket. The stops are adapted for contacting a top of the cap upon receipt of the cap within the socket such that the fingers and stops cooperate to orient the tool on the cap.

Techniques and devices for digitally resolving quadrature fringe signals from interferometers such as optical interferometers and interferometer-based sensing devices. In one implementation, two quadrature fringe signals from an interferometer which causes two signals in two signal paths to interfere with each other are sampled to obtain digital data samples from the two quadrature fringe signals. The digital data samples are used to perform a linear least square fitting to establish coefficients for an ellipse traced by the two quadrature fringe signals as a phase difference between the two signal paths changes. A pair of digital data samples are respectively obtained from the two quadrature signals at a given moment and are used to compute a corresponding phase difference between the two signal paths of the interferometer from established coefficients of the ellipse. The coefficient for the ellipse can be updated over time. This digital processing allows for real time processing.

Infrasound signals in the band 0.02 to 4 Hz are sensed in the presence of ambient noise generated chiefly by wind as integrated pressure variations, which induce detectable changes in the optical path length, along optic fibers, typically extending 100 m. to 1000 m. and more, arrayed at arbitrary geometries. Two fibers connected as a Michelson, Mach-Zehnder or equivalent interferometer where (i) one fiber is coupled to atmosphere while (ii) the other is not for being hermetically sealed in a tube, permit common mode rejection of noise from (i) temperature changes and (ii) strain, including ground vibration. Because the optic fiber infrasound sensors are longer than the distance over which wind-induced pressure changes are coherent, the effects of wind noise on the sensing of infrasound is reduced, and signal-to-noise ratio is increased over a wide bandwidth.
