    摘要: A tubing break-off tool designed especially for adjusting the length of a thin walled tubular sleeve. The break-off tool includes an internal support for internally supporting the sleeve on one side of the plane along which it is to be severed, and an external support for externally supporting the sleeve on the same side of the severance plane as the internal support. The supports may be mounted in plier-type carriers to pivot the supports with respect to each other. A stepped plate member may be provided for use with the internal and external supports for externally supporting the sleeve opposite the internal and external supports for breaking the sleeve in the desired plane if the sleeve is pregrooved at the breaking plane. Alternatively, a severing member may be provided for use with the internal and external supports to sever the sleeve along the breaking plane.

    摘要: A system for enlarging the diameter of holes through work pieces using a seamless tubular member which includes a tool having a mandrel with an expansion section thereon of a diameter larger than the initial diameter of the holes, driving means for forcing the mandrel through the holes to enlarge same, and a backup member with an aperture therethrough of a diameter at least as small as the initial inside diameter of the tubular member that is positioned against the work pieces in opposition to the mandrel with its aperture aligned with the holes. The aperture of the backup member is enlarged simultaneously with the enlargement of the holes immediately adjacent the backup member so as to support the material of the work pieces about the holes and the seamless tubular member at all times during the enlargement of the holes. The system also contemplates the method of using same and the joint produced thereby.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for severing thin walled tubing into selected lengths wherein the method includes circumferentially scoring the outside of the tubing at a predetermined point to produce a narrow weakened portion therearound and subsequently supporting the tubing internally while applying separating forces to the inside of the tubing at the weakened portion to sever the tubing at the weakened portion. The apparatus includes means for selectively measuring the length of the tubing to be severed and means for supporting the tubing internally while applying separation forces to the inside thereof at a circumferentially extending weakened portion to cause the same to sever at the weakened portion. The apparatus also includes means for producing a circumferentially extending weakened portion in the tubing.

    摘要: An assembly for fastening together work pieces having aligned holes therethrough and one side of limited accessibility which includes a fastener with a head, support shank and externally threaded engagement portion to be engaged by a conventional nut. The engagement portion is internally threaded oppositely to the external threads and a guide member is provided that can be screwed into the internal threads. The guide member is flexible so that it can be inserted through the holes until the fastener can be screwed thereon and used to pull the fastener into the holes from the side of limited accessibility. A tubular sleeve member is slipped over the fastener from the easily accessible side of the work pieces to fill the holes about the fastener and a holding member is used to hold the assembly in place so that the guide member can be removed and the conventional nut installed.

The severing tool includes an internal support mandrel for internally supporting the sleeve on one side of the plane along which it is to be severed which has a recess at the projecting end, and a piercing member externally engaging the sleeve on the same side of the severance plane as the internal support mandrel and overlying the recess so that the piercing member pierces the sleeve at the severance plane as the mandrel and piercing member are forced toward each other. The mandrel and piercing member may be mounted in plier-type carriers to pivot the mandrel and piercing member with respect to each other. A holding tool may be provided to support the sleeve along the severance plane.
