Abstract: A back-light device and a liquid crystal display in which light from light sources is guided to a light-guiding plate efficiently and heat of the light sources is dissipated efficiently. The back-light device of the liquid crystal panel has a front frame and a rear frame. There are provided four optical sheets, a light-guiding plate, a flexible PCB, two light sources, and a reflecting sheet between the front frame and the rear frame. The flexible PCB has a PCB part and two erected parts. A resistor and a thermistor as electronic parts and two light sources are installed on the PCB part in the vicinity of the erected parts. A light-radiating surface of the light source is pressed to an incident surface of the light-guiding plate by the erected part.

Abstract: A document filtering scheme capable of reducing the number of erroneously selected non-relevant documents without reducing the number of correctly selected relevant documents is disclosed. a non-relevant profile expressing non-relevant documents that are judged as having high similarities with respect to a relevant profile expressing a user's request but not matching with the user's request is utilized in addition to the relevant profile, such that each search target document for which the similarity with respect to the relevant profile is higher than a prescribed threshold for the relevant profile and the similarity with respect to the non-relevant profile is higher than a prescribed threshold for the non-relevant profile is removed as a non-relevant document.

Abstract: In an apparatus equipped with a display panel having displayed thereon an image of a video signal input thereto and a backlight for use for the display panel, there are provided a level-setting means (19) for outputting a signal having a level corresponding to the adjusting level of brightness of the image displayed on the display panel, a thinning means (20) for thinning a signal having a periodic waveform at every pseudo random period that has been set in correspondence with an output level of the level-setting means (19), and a drive means (13), (Q1) for generating a drive signal for driving the backlight based on an output signal of the thinning means (20). With this construction, it is arranged to enable the maintenance of an excellent state of display of the image and to enable the adjustment of the brightness of the backlight to be performed over a wide range without generating any noises.

Abstract: In an apparatus which previously displays a television program or the like most desired for each person on an individual timetable, or enables the family to look at the TV channel number displayed on the timetable, it provides means for storing data of the timetable for one day or a week into a storage device, such as a wrist watch, to be always carried by each person and for displaying the data by pressing the button of the wrist watch as occasion demands. Accordingly, a viewer can find on which channel the most desired program is aired by pressing the button of the wrist watch while he/she is out or is at work, whereby he/she can watch the program on the nearest television.

Abstract: A device which allows a user to enter TV program recording reservations into a VCR memory and record the TV programs on videotape based on the reservations. This device is also capable of distinguishing between reservation data for TV programs which have been recorded and those which have not. TV program reservation data may be entered via keyboard 10 or remotely using telephone set 1. At the time of recording of a reserved TV program, a mark indicating that the recording has been performed is stored in RAM along with the data for that reservation and this mark is stored for a prescribed period of time. When review button 10-2 is pressed, TV program reservation data is displayed on LCD 14. The display changes depending on whether or not the above-mentioned mark is stored in RAM and it is thus possible for a user to determine whether the reserved TV program has been recorded.

Abstract: This device is designed so that although voice of the opposite party will be amplified when telephone 1 on the side of the device is first placed on-hook during a telephone conversation, amplification will not occur if the opposite party places his or her phone on-hook first during a telephone conversation or if the user places telephone 1 on-hook before the opposite party picks up the telephone. The structure, which is shown in FIG. 1 such that during a telephone conversation between telephone 1 and telephone 12, when telephone 1 is placed on-hook first, the on-hook status is detected by means of the photocouplers PC-1 or PC-2, and the voice of the opposite party at telephone 12 is amplified by means of contacts y1-1 and y1-2, which are in the make position, line transformer 2, amplifier 3 and speaker 4. Further, when the opposite party's telephone 12 is placed on-hook first, the voice of the opposite party will not be amplified because a reversal of polarity and a brief disconnection on telephone line 13 are detected by means of photocouplers PC-1 and PC-2.
