    摘要: In a method for polishing a semiconductor wafer by rotating a work carrier and a table while pressing the semiconductor wafer retained by the work carrier against a polishing cloth mounted on the table, at a time when the table and the work carrier both having been at rest are rotated, each at a predetermined number of revolutions, in a condition that the polishing cloth and the semiconductor wafer are pressed against each other, to thereby start polishing, a table acceleration is maintained smaller than a work carrier acceleration. By such maintaining the table acceleration smaller than the work carrier acceleration, vibrations to be generated when the polishing is started can be prevented. In the method for polishing a semiconductor wafer according to the present invention, the diameter of the semiconductor wafer is preferably defined to be 30% or more of the diameter of the table.

The device includes a supporting body 13, an oscillating substrate 11 of a non-linear optical crystal, an adhesive layer 12 adhering the supporting body 13 and oscillating substrate 11, and a film 15 reflecting the electromagnetic wave formed on a surface of the supporting body 13 on the side of the adhesive layer 12. The oscillating substrate 11 has an upper face, a bottom face and an incident face on which the pump wave is made incident. The adhesive layer 12 has a refractive index with respect to the pump wave lower than that of the oscillating substrate 13.

    摘要: The invention provides an optical phase modulator having a substrate made of an electro-optical material, a signal electrode provided on the substrate and first and second ground electrodes provided on both sides of the signal electrode. The electrodes are provided so that a size of the first gap between the first ground electrode and the signal electrode is smaller than a size of a second gap between the second ground electrode and the signal electrode. Furthermore, an optical waveguide is provided in the first gap as an optical phase modulator and not provided in the second gap. A driving voltage required for the phase adjustments is thereby lowered, the impedance matching is easily made and excellent radio frequency property can be realized.

The downstream detecting unit has a branch flow route for receiving gas from the downstream pipe, a trapping portion, a transmitting portion for transmitting an electromagnetic wave to the trapping portion, and a receiving portion for receiving an electromagnetic wave from the trapping portion. The amount of the particulates trapped in the filter is detected based on a difference between detection values of the mass of the particulates trapped in the upstream and downstream trapping portions.

    摘要: An optical functional device has a slab type two-dimensional photonic crystal layer. The photonic crystal layer has a dielectric layer and a plurality of lattice columns each comprising dielectric pillars. A waveguide portion is provided in the photonic crystal layer. A ground electrode and a signal electrode are formed on the dielectric layer for applying a modulating voltage on light propagating in the waveguide portion. A layer of a high dielectric constant is laminated on the dielectric layer. A low dielectric portion is formed direct under the waveguide portion and the lattice columns 7A, 7B and 7C of at least first, second and third orders in distance with respect to said waveguide portion.
