Abstract:
An inter-cell interference mitigation signaling method for controlling the use of a plurality of inter-cell interference mitigation methods during wireless communications between a first wireless communications apparatus and a second wireless communications apparatus, the method comprising performing a system configuration procedure to select one or more of the inter-cell interference mitigation methods for use during the wireless communications between the first wireless communications apparatus and the second wireless communications apparatus; performing an initiation procedure to start the use of the one or more selected inter-cell interference mitigation methods in response to the meeting of the predetermined initiation criteria; and performing a termination procedure to end the use of the one or more selected inter-cell interference mitigation methods in response to the meeting of predetermined termination criteria.
Abstract:
A method in a wireless communication system comprising a user equipment, an anchor network station and at least one assisting network station, wherein the user equipment transmits the same data to the network stations and the network stations each transmit an acknowledgement of the data to the user equipment in response; and wherein the or each assisting network station also forwards the data to the anchor network station.
Abstract:
A method of operating a wireless communications system comprising at least a base station, a first relay station, a second relay station and one or more subscriber stations; wherein the base station, the first relay station and one or more of the said subscriber stations are operable to communicate with each other using at least a first wireless protocol, and wherein the base station, the second relay station and one or more of the said subscriber stations are operable to communicate with each other using at least a second wireless protocol; the method comprising operating the system according to an overall frame structure in which a subframe comprises: a first-protocol access period for access communications using the first wireless protocol, during which the first relay station is in one of a transmit mode and a receive mode; a first-protocol relay period for relay communications using the first wireless protocol, during which the first relay station is in the other of the transmit mode and the receive mode; a second-protocol access period for access communications using the second wireless protocol; and a second-protocol relay period for relay communications using the second wireless protocol; the subframe further comprising an idle period for the first relay station for substantially the whole of one or both of the second-protocol access period and the second-protocol relay period, to avoid communications using the first wireless protocol interfering with communications using the second wireless protocol; and wherein the overall frame structure is arranged to position the idle period for the first relay station between the first-protocol access period and the first-protocol relay period, to accommodate switching of the first relay station between the one of the transmit mode and the receive mode and the other of the transmit mode and the receive mode.
Abstract:
A method of requesting a plurality of different characteristic indicators from a second communication apparatus (MS) in a wireless communication network comprising a first communication apparatus (BS) and a plurality of such second communication apparatuses (MS) which communicate with the first communication apparatus using a shared communication frame, the method comprising; the first communication apparatus (BS) transmitting (110) a single standing instruction to the second communication apparatus (MS) to interchange between sending the different characteristic indicators in a feedback window allocated to the second communication apparatus in the shared communication frame.
Abstract:
A frame format used in a wireless communication system, more particularly an OFDMA TDD wireless communication system, of the kind that includes a base station and a plurality of fixed or mobile subscriber stations, the base station maintaining connections with each of the subscriber stations by performing wireless communication in units of frames having the frame format, and within each frame, allocating resources for data transmission and signalling. Each frame has a plurality of downlink subframes and a plurality of uplink subframes including, in time order, a first downlink subframe, a first uplink subframe, a final downlink subframe and a final uplink subframe. One or more further downlink subframe/uplink subframe pairs may be interposed between the first and final subframes as desired, and the configuration can be changed dynamically.

Abstract:
A wireless communication method used in a system comprising a base station and a plurality of fixed or mobile subscriber stations, the base station maintaining connections with each of the subscriber stations by performing wireless communication in units of frames, and within each frame, allocating resources for data transmissions and signalling in the wireless communication system. The method involves providing, in each frame, a new dedicated shared channel for use by the subscriber stations to report a connection quality to the base station. To save bandwidth in the system, the resources allocated to the shared channel are less than the total resources needed for every subscriber station to report individually within the same frame. The method includes, in the base station, allocating resources to the shared channel, dividing the shared channel into a plurality of reporting opportunities, and transmitting requests for reports to the subscriber stations; and in the subscriber stations, responding to said requests by randomly selecting one of said reporting opportunities and sending a report on the channel quality. Preferably, the responding step is conditional upon the channel quality experienced by each subscriber station meeting a threshold condition set by the base station and included in the requests.
Abstract:
A method of requesting a plurality of different characteristic indicators from a second communications apparatus in a wireless communications network including a first communications apparatus and a plurality of such second communications apparatuses which communicate with the first communications apparatus, the method includes the first communications apparatus transmitting a single standing instruction to the second communications apparatus defining at least two interleaving patterns, each interleaving pattern specifying two or more of the characteristic indicators and defining a pattern according to which the second communications apparatus is to interleave the specified characteristic indicators in a single feedback channel allocated to the second communications apparatus, the single standing instruction further defining a selection signal to be transmitted from the first communications apparatus to the second communications apparatus according to which the second communications apparatus is to select one of the interleaving patterns.
