AN ADJUSTING DEVICE ON A THREAD GRINDING MACHINE CONTROLS GRINDING OF A MALE THREAD OF HIGH FITTING ACCURACY ON WORKPIECES SUCH AS SPINDLES, BOLTS AND THE LIKE WHICH ARE TO BE PAIRED WITH FEMALE WORKPIECES SICH AS THREADED BALL BEARING NUTS AND THE LIKE. THE ADJUSTING DEVICE INCLUDES A MEASURING CONE FOR RECEIVING A MEASURING HEAD FOR THE NUT TO BE MEASURED, AND THIS MEASURING HEAD IS IN GEARED CONNECTION WITH THE USUAL FINE ADJUSTING SHAFT OF THE GRINDING MACHINE AND IS SO ARRANGED AS TO THE DISPLACED AXIALLY WITHIN THE MEASURING HEAD WHEN THE FIND ADJUSTING DEVICE IS OPERATED. THE MEASURING HEAD IS SECURED ON THE ADJUSTING HOUSING COAXIALLY WITH THE MEASURING CONE WHICH PROTRUDES FROM THE ADJUSTING HOUSING. THE MEASURING HEAD INCLUDES AN EXPANSION SLEEVE HAVING AN INNER CONICAL SURFACE IDENTIAL WITH THE SMOOTH-WALLED OUTER CONCIAL SURFACE OF THE MEASURING CONE, AND THIS EXPANSION SLEEVE IS EXPANDED BY THE AFOREMENTIONED AXIAL MOVEMENT.

A profiled surface of a rotating tool, such as a grinding disk, for producing cycloid thread flanks in screws, is shaped by a dressing device positionable in engagement with the surface of the disk which forms the threads. The dressing device is movable along a generated screw line determined as a helical line of contact between the screw being produced and an imaginary counter-screw in engagement with the screw. The dressing device includes a traverse bar on which diamond dressing points are positioned and the traverse bar is mounted for selectively moving the dressing point along the generated screw line in contact with the profiled surface of the disk so that the proper profile for forming cycloid thread flanks is obtained.
