    摘要: A nucleic acid tag comprising a nucleotide-support platform attached to a nucleic acid molecule, a fire retardant, and an encapsulant. Unique nucleic acid-containing tags containing a fire- or heat-protective element are seeded at one or more geographic locations. Using sequence analysis techniques, the person or object of interest is examined for the presence of one or more of the seeded nucleic acids. The geographic location associated with each detected nucleic acid is used to backtrack the item's path or extrapolate a probable point of origin.

    摘要: Peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) oligomers and methods of using the PNA-DNA oligomers to detect and/or amplify a target nucleic acid in a sample are provided. The PNA-DNA oligomers of the invention are relatively insensitive to ionic concentration and many inhibitory proteins and, consequently, are particularly advantageous for direct use in environmental or challenging samples to detect nucleic acid, especially that of microorganisms, including food and water pathogens and/or bioterrorism agents. Methods are also provided for use of the PNA-DNA oligomers in applications including polymerase chain reaction, nucleic acid sequencing, mutation detection and as nucleic acid probes.

    摘要: A method for preparing a nucleic acid component of a sample for amplification includes contacting the sample with a porous support that deactivates a nucleic acid amplification inhibitor component of the sample and directing a fluid through the porous support, whereby the nucleic acid component of the sample is directed through at least a portion of the porous support and is separated from the support, thereby preparing the nucleic acid component for amplification. The method can be conducted in an apparatus that includes a porous support having a component that deactivates a nucleic acid amplification inhibitor component of a sample contacting the porous support and a housing having an opening and defining an interior, said interior being in fluid communication with the porous support, whereby at least a portion of a fluid directed through the opening is directed through at least a portion of the porous support and separates at least a portion of a nucleic acid component of a sample contacting the porous support from the support, thereby preparing the nucleic acid component for amplification.
