Abstract:
A radiation protection shield for protecting medical personnel from radiation being applied to a patient positioned on a table. The shield includes a frame and a primary screen including a radiation-resistant material connected to said frame.
Abstract:
A method of coordinating life issues and corresponding services within a life issue tracking system can include storing member profile information for each of a plurality of members of an organization, creating a life issue entry, and associating the life issue entry with a selected member from the plurality of members for which the member profile information is maintained. The method further can include scheduling at least one service to be provided to the selected member in response to the life issue entry.
Abstract:
A self retracting step apparatus (10) mounted on the underside of a boat step (12) that projects rearwardly from the transom (14) of a boat. The step apparatus includes a mounting bracket (26) to which a support bar (16) is pivotally connected. A stirrup step (20) is secured to the distal end of the support bar, and is pivotal between an extended position and a retracted position. The support bar and stirrup step define a forwardly facing reactive surface (24) against which drag forces act upon movement of the boat. Springs (22) connected from the mounting bracket to the support bar nominally bias the stirrup step to the extended position, but may be overcome by the drag forces to allow the stirrup step to begin pivoting towards the retracted position. Once the stirrup step has begun movement from the extended position, the springs act to compel further pivoting of the stirrup step to a retracted position for stowage.
Abstract:
An apparatus, system, and method for affordably distributing cable communication signals at greatly reduced power consumption levels with high signal quality with an active tap having gain stage characterized by low power (less than 1 Watt), low noise figure (less than 3 dB), high bandwidth (typically DC-2 GHz), and high gain (at least 15 dBmV).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a disposable medical-examination light. Specifically, the invention relates to a disposable light for use with a speculum. Generally, the disposable light includes a casing with an interior and an exterior. The casing interior may be adapted to hold at least one battery. The casing exterior may include a proximal surface and a distal surface. A protrusion may extend from the proximal surface, and at least one light-emitting diode (“LED”), such as a white and/or green light producing LED, may be substantially disposed at a proximal end of the protrusion. Additionally, a gripping mechanism may extend from the casing's proximal surface. The disposable light may also comprise electrical components for connecting at least one battery to at least one LED. Furthermore, the disposable light may also include a switching mechanism that may be configured to close an electrical circuit between an LED and a battery.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to the field of chemotherapy of diseases such as cell proliferation disorders including cancer. In particular, the present invention relates to the use of hyaluronan (HA) as a protective agent in the treatment of subjects. HA is administered in conjunction with a chemotherapeutic agent to facilitate the prolonged administration of a dose of the chemotherapeutic agent to be administered to a subject. Owing to the protective effects of the HA, the dose of chemotherapeutic agent may be substantially higher than a generally accepted effective dose, which would otherwise be expected to cause unacceptable side effects in the subject.
Abstract:
A process for continuous composite coextrusion comprising: (a) forming first a material-laden composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer and at least about 40 volume % of a ceramic or metallic particulate in a manner such that the composition has a substantially cylindrical geometry and thus can be used as a substantially cylindrical feed rod; (b) forming a hole down the symmetrical axis of the feed rod; (c) inserting the start of a continuous spool of ceramic fiber, metal fiber or carbon fiber through the hole in the feed rod; (d) extruding the feed rod and spool simultaneously to form a continuous filament consisting of a green matrix material completely surrounding a dense fiber reinforcement and said filament having an average diameter that is less than the average diameter of the feed rod; and (e) depositing the continuous filament into a desired architecture which preferably is determined from specific loading conditions of the desired object and CAD design of the object to provide a green fiber reinforced composite object.
Abstract:
The invention provides systems and methods for continuous back up of data stored on a computer network. To this end the systems of the invention include a synchronization process that replicates selected source data files data stored on the network and to create a corresponding set of replicated data files, called the target data files, that are stored on a back up server, This synchronization process builds a baseline data structure of target data files. In parallel to this synchronization process, the system includes a dynamic replication process that includes a plurality of agents, each of which monitors a portion of the source data files to detect and capture, at the byte-level, changes to the source data files. Each agent may record the changes to a respective journal file, and as the dynamic replication process detects that the journal files contain data, the journal files are transferred or copied to the back up server so that the captured changes can be written to the appropriate ones of the target data files.
