When detecting the module in which the abnormality of operation occurs based on operation abnormality generation condition information in each of the modules stored in the shared data module, the plurality of modules provided in the image forming apparatus each perform an operation (a particular operation) for eliminating the abnormality of operation in accordance with the module in which the abnormality of operation occurs and the contents of the abnormality of operation. Of the plurality of modules, a module which finally performs the particular operation notifies the occurrence of abnormality of operation to a controller module.

A control program stored in a ROM of a master CPU that controls the basic operation of the entire apparatus is transferred to a slave CPU and then written to an internal ROM of the slave CPU which controls the operations of functional units of the apparatus. The transfer of the control program is carried out when the mode of the apparatus is switched to a write control mode.

The sheet, the image-formed face of which was reversed facedown, is discharged from the printer unit to the finisher and, on the finisher, the sheet from the inserter is stacked as keeping its image-formed face facedown and the sheet from the printer unit is stacked as keeping its image-formed face facedown. The top and bottom of the image formed by the image forming apparatus corresponds to the top and bottom of the insert sheet.
