    摘要： A master cylinder and brake valve assembly for operating the clutch and clutch brake of a heavy road vehicle is arranged such that up to a first given displacement of the master cylinder piston the clutch release mechanism only is connected to the master cylinder and, above a second further given displacement of the piston, the brake actuator only is connected to the master cylinder, there being a step change in thrust applied to the piston between the given displacements.In a modification, above a third further given displacement of the piston, the brake actuator is reisolated from the master cylinder.

    摘要： A non-linear optical device includes a frequency-conversion waveguide and first and second input waveguides. The longitudinal axes of the input waveguides are inclined to that of the frequency-conversion waveguide such a first transverse mode is excited in the latter at the input frequency in operation of the device. The frequency-conversion waveguide supports a second transverse mode at an output frequency of the device, such that the phase velocity of the second transverse mode at the output frequency is substantially equal to that of the first transverse mode at the input frequency, thus providing phase-matching by balancing the effects of chromatic and modal dispersion.

    摘要： A switching regulator (2-5) supplies a controllable stable average current to a load (1), such as series-connected light emitting diodes. A regulator controller (2) includes a hysteretic comparator (12, 30) which controls a switch in the form of a transistor (15) for switching current into an inductor (3). The comparator (12) has upper and lower thresholds. A first circuit comprising a fast current monitor (6) supplies a first signal to the comparator representing the instantaneous current in the inductor (3). A second circuit (36, 37, 41, and 42) supplies a second signal to the comparator representing an error between a desired regulator output and an actual regulator output.

    摘要： A wheel to provide an adjustable track for a vehicle comprises a wheel disc and a rim interconnected by a plurality of circumferentially spaced connections. The connections each comprise a channel member spaced about the rim and receiving a connecting block attached to the periphery of the disc. The channel members are orientated to be parallel to the rotational axis so that forces transmitted from the disc to the rim do not induce forces along the rotational axis. Releasable stops are provided to allow the blocks to be displaced along the channel members and vary the track of the vehicle.
