摘要: A heat exchanger that comprises a plurality of small channels that are arranged around a cross-sectional perimeter such that the sides of the small channels are touching to create bigger channels running parallel to the small channels. To this end, embodiments of the present invention have a heat exchanger matrix where the structure of the large channels is entirely comprised by the structure of the smaller channels resulting in a more compact, more efficient heat exchanger.

Adjacent A channels running in an orthogonal direction are 180 degrees out of phase. The plurality of A channels form the plurality of B channels running in a cross-flow direction with the outer walls of the A channels. The B channels exist as the negative space between adjacent 180 degree out of phase A channels.

摘要: Brake wear sensors for the brake disc stacks commonly used in aircraft brake systems are disclosed. An ultrasonic transducer is employed to transmit signals to a reflective surface and to receive the reflected signals in return. The time that elapses between the transmission of the ultrasonic signal and the reception of its reflection correlates with the separation between the transducer and the reflective surface. The reflective surface is operatively connected to a pressure plate of the associated brake disc stack such that, as the stack wears, the reflective surface is displaced along with the pressure plate. That displacement correlates with brake wear. In one embodiment, the ultrasonic brake wear detector is an independent unit mounted to the brake housing, while another embodiment includes the detector as an integral portion of a brake actuator connected to such housing. A third embodiment for use with brake disc stacks exhibiting substantial wear before requiring service employs either twin cylinders, one with a piston and the other a wear pin, or a single cylinder housing a wear pin operatively fixed to the brake disc stack.

摘要: A method of deicing an airfoil is provided. In preferred embodiments, the method comprises coupling a plurality of piezo-electric transducers (PETs) to an inside surface of an airfoil. The PETs are electrically coupled to a DC-DC converter and a first inverter. The PETs are driven by sweeping the driving frequency of the plurality of PETs over a frequency range that spans at least 10 kHz and 100 kHz. In preferred embodiments, some PETs are driven at a phase shift to the other PETs.

摘要: A method of controlling the oil flow in an engine is provided. In preferred embodiments, the method comprises: flowing oil to a first oil pump upstream or downstream of a fuel oil heat exchanger and flowing oil to a second oil pump upstream or downstream of an air oil heat exchanger. One of two control functions to control the oil mass flow rate through the first oil pump is selected wherein the first control function maximizes specific fuel consumption (“SFC”) by the engine and the second control function minimizes average oil temperature. Preferably, the oil pumps are electric and the total combined oil mass flow rate of the first and second oil pumps is maintained constant.

摘要: Heat exchanger assemblies including turning vanes are taught herein. In preferred embodiments, the heat exchanger assembly comprises: an inlet duct; a heat exchanger coupled to the inlet duct and a plurality of turning vanes coupled to the heat exchanger and protruding into the inlet duct. The intake plane of the heat exchanger is at an angle between 0 degrees and 90 degrees to the primary flow direction of the inlet duct. The plurality of turning vanes comprise: a straight leading edge of length L that is parallel to the primary flow direction of the inlet duct; a convex lower surface that transitions a bottom of the leading edge to an upper wall of a lower channel of the heat exchanger; and a concave upper surface that transitions a distal point of the turning vane to a second channel of the heat exchanger.
