Abstract:
A multilayer pressure sensitive correction tape useful for masking handwritten and/or printed characters comprising a release liner, a masking layer and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer, wherein at least one of the layers is cured by radiation. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the masking layer and pressure sensitive adhesive layer comprise formulations of reactive monomers or oligomers which are radiation-cured after the formulations are applied to the correction tape assembly. In a more preferred embodiment of the invention the masking layer and pressure sensitive adhesive layer formulations contain no volatile solvents when these formulations are applied to the correction tape assembly. The radiation-cured layers are essentially insoluble in organic solvents and water, and the radiation-cured layers exhibit improved film toughness and improved resistance to ink “bleed through”. Additionally, the present invention is directed to a process for making such a multilayer correction tape having at least one radiation cured layer.

A three-dimensional object is generated according to a stored, digital representation through layer-by-layer transfer of material onto a receiver, each layer corresponding to a layer of the three-dimensional representation. Each deposited layer is applied through selective irradiation of an ablation-transfer carrier. The carrier includes a transfer material that is ejected in response to irradiation, and which solidifies on the receiver or on a previously applied layer of transfer material. Thus, irradiation of the carrier in an area pattern corresponding to a layer results in deposition of the transfer material in accordance with the pattern. Sequential irradiations of fresh ablation-transfer carrier material, each according to a two-dimensional pattern corresponding to one of the contiguous layers of the three-dimensional object, result in depositions that gradually build up into the three-dimensional object.

An ink for hot-melt ink-jet printing comprising a benzoate solvent which is solid at room temperature. This ink is suitable for jetting onto an opaque substrate such as paper for directly readable print, or onto a transparent substrate, such as an acetate or polycarbonate sheet, to make a projectable transparency.

Transfer sheets are provided which include a polyethylene imine as a blocking agent and which are useful in the heat transfer dye printing of various materials such as textiles. The polyethylene imine is capable of completely or partially blocking the transfer of sublimable dyes which have been imprinted on the transfer sheet while having no effect on other dyes which also have been imprinted on the transfer sheet. By using such transfer sheets, designs can be printed which are not otherwise obtainable by conventional techniques. The invention further concerns the method of making such sheets, their use in the printing of various materials, and the materials which have been so printed.
