摘要: The techniques introduced here provide a storage server migration that is non-disruptive to client applications. The techniques described here allow the migration of data from a source storage server to a destination storage server without the need for planned downtime typically associated with storage server migration. Using the techniques described here, data migration operations are performed while client applications continue to run and access data from the source storage server. Once data migration operations are complete, all applications and clients are transitioned to the destination storage server without disruption to the client applications.

摘要: Methods and systems for rapidly rolling back and retrying a data migration between a first and a second storage system. In one embodiment, upon receiving a request at a provisioning manager to perform a rollback of a first data migration, the first storage system merges, to a baseline dataset, a first incremental dataset received by the second storage system after the first data migration. In another embodiment, upon receiving a request at a provisioning manager to perform a retry of the data migration, the second storage system merges, to the data received by the second storage system during and immediately after the first data migration, a second incremental dataset received to the first storage system after performance of the rollback. Throughout the migration rollback and retry, the data of the baseline dataset, first incremental dataset, and second incremental data set is made available to the client.

摘要: A method includes reading a superblock of a read-only replica of a source virtual volume in a source virtual storage partition associated with a source aggregate of a source storage system at the destination storage system, modifying the superblock of the read-only replica in a memory of the destination storage system, and associating the modified superblock with one or more virtual volume block number(s) configured to be previously associated with the superblock of the read-only replica of the source virtual volume without initiating a destination consistency point (DCP) at the destination storage system to render the destination virtual volume writable. The method also includes modifying a disk group label to reflect an association of the destination storage disk with the writable destination virtual volume, and initiating the DCP to ensure that the modified superblock and the modified disk group label are flushed to the destination storage disk.

摘要: A point-in-time image of data in stored in a storage system is identified. Dependencies from the point-in-time image are detected. The dependencies are broken in an order before the point-in-time image is deleted. In one embodiment, an order in which to break the dependencies is presented to a user via one or more graphs. Based on the one or more graphs, the user determines a manner in which to break the dependencies.

摘要: Method and system for migrating a virtual storage system from a source storage system having access to a source storage device to a destination storage system having access to a destination storage device is provided. A processor executable management application estimates a likelihood of success for a migration operation before the migration operation enters a cut-over duration during which client access to the source storage system and the destination storage system is restricted. The migration operation enters the cut-over duration if there is high likelihood of success for completing the migration during the cut-over duration or aborted, if there is a low likelihood of success for completing the migration during the cut-over duration.

摘要: A system and method are described for coordinating deduplication operations and backup operations of a storage volume. In one embodiment, a request is identified to eliminate duplicate data from a storage volume. The storage volume may be scheduled to be backed up on a periodic basis. The duration of time required to complete an operation to eliminate duplicate data from the storage volume may be determined. The determination may be based on the amount of data modified on the storage volume since the last operation to eliminate duplicate data from the storage volume. The determined duration of time may be used to schedule the start time of the operation to eliminate duplicate data such that the operation is completed prior to the next scheduled backup of the storage volume. The operation may be initiated at the scheduled start time, ensuring the operation is completed prior to the next scheduled backup.

摘要: Method and system for processing client provisioning and migration requests is provided. The process evaluates a provisioning request and selects a storage that best meets the client requirements. The process determines if non-disruptive migration is possible and if it is possible then the storage is automatically configured for non-disruptive migration. Once the storage is provisioned and configured, the process receives a migration request to migrate information from the storage. The process determines an access protocol used by the client to access the storage. The process determines if a storage system that manages the storage is capable of supporting non-disruptive migration of information from the storage. If the storage system is capable, then a migration technique is automatically selected for migrating the information from the storage.

摘要: In a method and system for monitoring storage resources, storage containers are monitored to identify their individual normal usage patterns over time. Based on a storage container's normal usage pattern, limits may be established for determining whether its rate of change over a predetermined amount of time (i.e., usage change rate) is normal or abnormal based on a mean and a standard deviation of historical usage rate values. The limits are periodically updated to ensure that the limits remain indicative of the storage container's current usage pattern, as usage patterns may vary over the life of a storage container.
