A motor current flowing through an inverter-driven induction motor is detected when voltage is applied to the induction motor by the inverter operated under a certain condition on the basis of the vector control. The detected current is converted to two components of a current vector in a d-q coordinate system. Motor constants are calculated on the basis of a component in the d-coordinate axis of a voltage reference set for creating the certain condition and the two converted components of the motor current detected at that time, and control constants in a vector control apparatus for the inverter-driven induction motor are set or adjusted in accordance with the calculated motor constants. According to this invention, the control constants in the vector control apparatus can be easily set or adjusted.

On the basis of the torque current component determined, the output voltage and frequency of the voltage-type inverter are controlled. Additionally, the rotational speed of the induction motor is estimated on the basis of the detected torque current component and the speed of the induction motor is controlled such that the estimated speed signal coincides with a speed command signal.

A holographic resonant system includes a plurality of volume phase holograms superimposed on a single layer of photosensitive film. The volume phase holograms are oriented with respect to one another such that a first volume phase hologram selects an incoming light beam incident upon a surface of the holographic resonant system having a wavelength &lgr;playback and an angle of incidence &thgr;in and internally diffracts the incoming light beam to a second volume phase hologram. The second volume phase hologram then accepts the resulting diffracted light beam from the first volume phase hologram and diffracts the light beam to form an image reflected from the surface of the holographic resonant system at wavelength &lgr;playback and an angle &thgr;out. The result is a holographic resonant system that only permits light beams from a predetermined direction to illuminate the system, thereby reducing the effect of ambient light upon the system and thus increasing the contrast ratio of the image.

A touch screen input device and method for use with a rear-mounted video output projection system incorporates a transparent sheet preferably having substantially parallel top and bottom surfaces as the touch screen panel. A rear-mounted light source projects light onto the rear surface of the touch screen panel, on which a diffusing surface is imposed, with the result that some of the light from the light source is totally internally reflected within the touch screen panel and is imaged by a rear-mounted video camera. When the front surface of the touch screen panel is touched by a finger or rubbery object, total internal reflection is interrupted and the video camera images the touch as a dark spot. Because the touch screen panel is a sheet having substantially parallel surfaces, the video output system with which the input device is designed to be used is a projection system, and the technology used to detect touches is optical imaging, the touch screen input device can be readily scaled up to desktop or large work-surface sizes. The touch screen input device operates equally well in an environment with any level of ambient light or no ambient light and can simultaneously detect multiple touches. The touch screen input device remains operative while books or other common desktop objects are left resting on portions of the touch screen panel.

A pre-amplifier circuit comprises an operation amplifier having a noninverting input terminal connected to a voice input terminal, a negative feedback circuit having a first resistor which is connected between an output terminal of the operation amplifier and an inverting input terminal of the operation amplifier, and a second resistor and a switching element which are connected in series between the inverting input terminal of the operation amplifier and a ground, an operating switch for switching a small signal input mode and a large signal input mode, and an on-off control circuit for bringing the switching element into an off state to operate the operation amplifier as a buffer circuit when the operating switch is switched to the large signal input mode, while bringing the switching element into an on state to operate the operation amplifier as an amplifier circuit when the operating switch is switched to the small signal input mode.
