摘要： An apparatus for recognizing graphic symbols is disclosed, wherein a character is scanned by a cathode ray tube along a plurality of parallel scan lines (sections) and a photodetector supplies an analog electric signal proportional to the intensity of the light signal output from each scanned point. Each analog signal is preprocessed in order to obtain a digital signal. Each portion of this digital signal which corresponds to a white segment of a section is switched to one of a plurality of motif registers, according to the relationship of the white segment with the black segments of the same sections and with the shadow of the black segments of the sections already scanned. Each motif register is emptied if the motif is not separated, i.e., if the corresponding motif register does not receive at least a prefixed number of contributions. At the end of the scanning of the character, it is categorized according to the type of motifs present therein.

摘要： An electronic computer having an arrangement for shifting the characters stored in selected registers of the memory is disclosed, wherein the shift of the characters is controlled by an instruction causing a control unit to select the register to be shifted and to activate the arrangement. The arrangement comprises a one-character register which is first connected by the control unit with the last significant stage of the selected register for exchanging the characters stored therein. The onecharacter register is then connected with the most significant stage of the selected register, whereby the character previously stored in the last significant stage is now stored in the most significant stage. The one character register is then connected with the successive stages of the selected register whereby the characters are shifted step-by-step by one stage. A counter is provided for counting the number of changes performed and for causing the control unit to stop the exchanging operation upon completion.

摘要： A vertical tabulating device for an electric typewriter including a carriage carrying a rotatable platen is described. The return movement of the carriage of the typewriter, with which the device is associated, is obtained by power-pulling a flexible member connected with the carriage of the typewriter. The device is characterized in that the rotational movement of the platen is actuated by a drum disposed on the carriage. The flexible member has one end fastened to the drum and normally has a section thereof wound about the aforementioned drum by resilient means. The drum actuates rotation of the roller through a transmission; movement of the roller is arrested by locking means controlled by a programming disk rotatable with the roller.

摘要： A machine control device for arresting the operation of a machine in response to an insufficient rate of lubricant flow in the machine lubrication system. A chamber interposed in the lubricant return circuit to the reservoir comprises a float for sensing the level of lubricant therein, an upper discharge port, and a lower discharge port of such size as to allow a flow equal to that necessary in the lubrication system to allow the machine to complete its cycle. A signal responsive to a predetermined position of the float announces the condition of insufficient rate of flow, and provides an input to an AND gate. The other input to the AND gate is provided by the machine control system at the end of a cycle, whereby the arresting of machine operation thereupon occurs.
