    摘要: Disclosed is multi-flow filter cartridge assembly that includes an elongated housing that has axially opposed proximal and distal ends and defines an interior cavity and first, second and third flow paths which extend from the proximal end of the housing to the distal end. The cartridge assembly also includes first, second and third filter elements. The first filter element is disposed within the interior cavity of the housing and conditions fluid that traverses the first flow path from a first inlet port to a first outlet port. The second filter element is disposed within the interior cavity of the housing and conditions fluid that traverses the second flow path from a second inlet port to a second outlet port. Lastly, the third filter element is also disposed within the interior cavity of the housing and conditions fluid that traverses the third flow path from a third inlet port to a third outlet port. The first flow path is isolated from the second and third flow paths and the second flow path is isolated from the third flow path.

    摘要: An aortic punch for creating an aortotomy in a wall of a luminal structure. The aortic punch includes a housing having distal and proximal ends, first and second plungers, a first return spring and a cutting assembly. The first plunger is movable relative to the housing to expose a barb from the distal end of the housing for piercing and catching the wall of the luminal structure. The first return spring biases the barb proximally toward the distal end of the housing such that the barb pulls the wall of the luminal structure into contact with the cutting assembly. The present disclosure also relates to a method of forming an aortotomy in a luminal structure.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for the biopsy of tissue specimens and, more particularly, a single insertion multiple sample percutaneous biopsy apparatus and method are provided. A tip at a distal end of a vacuum support tube is introduced into a tissue mass. The vacuum support tube is retracted exposing a basket tube bounded by a front washer and a rear washer mounted thereabout forming a tissue basket. The basket tube is supported internally by a thrust tube which provides structure to the apparatus to allow it to penetrate tissue. The thrust tube and the basket tube are in fluid connection and are provided with suction to draw tissue inward. The tissue is then severed by rotating and advancing a knife edge at the distal end of the vacuum support tube. The tissue basket is withdrawn and the tissue sample is removed by rotating the vacuum support tube. The tissue sample is sliced longitudinally, and a stripper scrapes the tissue sample from an opening in the vacuum support tube.

    摘要: A tissue gripping thread configuration for securely positioning an elongated medical instrument relative to body tissue. The tissue gripping thread includes curved distal and proximal foot sections connected to a thread base, a curved distal thread surface extending from the distal foot section to a thread apex, and a proximal thread wall substantially perpendicular to the base surface extending from the proximal curved foot section to the thread apex. In the preferred embodiment the flank angle of the distal thread surface is substantially greater than the flank angle of the proximal thread wall. The preferred thread configuration reduces trauma to tissue during insertion and removal of an associated medical instrument while ensuring secure positioning of the instrument relative to tissue. Preferred thread dimensions and radii, as well as embodiments for associating the preferred thread configuration with a trocar device are disclosed.

    摘要: A novel surgical retractor is provided including a handle assembly, a housing and a collapsible retractor assembly connected to a distal end of the housing. The handle assembly includes a stationary handle in cooperation with an actuating structure for manipulating the collapsible retractor assembly through the housing.The handle assembly may be configured in a variety of forms including palm grips, pistol grips, axial grips, ring grips, etc. The housing includes a tubular structure having an inner tube axially disposed within an outer tube. The outer tube is fixed in the stationary handle with the inner tube passing through the outer tube and connected to the actuating structure. Where desired, either the outer or inner tube may be rotatably attached to the stationary handle. The retractor assembly is attached to the distal end of the housing and includes a reciprocal yoke assembly interconnected with a plurality of collapsible interleaved retractor blades. One element of the yoke assembly is typically maintained stationary while the other is allowed to reciprocate axially to deploy the interleaved retractor blades into a fan configuration.

    摘要: A surgical biopsy apparatus is provided which includes a housing; a first elongated tubular member removably mounted in the housing and defining a fluid passageway therein, the first elongated tubular member including: a tapered closed distal end portion adapted to penetrate tissue; a laterally disposed tissue receiving opening formed near the tapered distal end which includes a tissue support surface defining a plurality of holes in fluid communication with the fluid passageway; and a second elongated tubular member rotatably and reciprocatingly disposed coaxially about the first elongated tubular member, the second elongated tubular member having a cutting edge formed at an open distal end thereof and a lateral tissue discharge port formed proximally of the cutting edge.A method of performing a surgical biopsy is also provided which includes inserting a biopsy apparatus into the tissue of a patient, the biopsy apparatus including an inner tubular member having a tapered penetrating end formed on the distal end and an outer tubular member held longitudinally fixed relative to the inner tubular member during the insertion step; retracting the outer tubular member relative to the inner tubular member to expose a laterally disposed tissue receiving area formed on the inner tubular member; applying suction to a series of openings formed along an inner surface of the tissue receiving area to pull tissue into the tissue receiving area; severing tissue disposed within the tissue receiving area by advancing the outer tubular member over the inner tubular member such that a cutting surface formed on the distal end of the outer tubular member rotates as it passes over the tissue receiving area; and removing the severed tissue sample from the tissue sampling site by retracting the inner tubular member from the outer tubular member until the tissue receiving area is aligned with a lateral opening formed in the outer tubular member wherein a tissue stripping plate urges the tissue sample out of the tissue receiving area.
