Abstract: An aspiration thrombectomy system for use with a vacuum source and an aspiration catheter includes an aspiration catheter, connection tubing configured to act as a common conduit for fluid communication between the aspiration catheter and a vacuum source, controllable valves operable to selectively open and close to control fluid flow, pressure sensors associated with the aspiration catheter or the connection tubing, and an automatic controller configured to operate the valves in a first operational state to generate fluid pressure changes, detect pressure levels in the system, wherein changes in the detected pressure levels are correlated with the generated fluid pressure changes, determine system states based on system state scores determined based on the detected pressure levels, the system state scores indicating a measure of occlusion in the aspiration catheter or the connection tubing, and operate the valves in a second operational state based on the determined system states.

Abstract: Devices for removing occlusive material from blood lumens and similar physiological structures are provided and generally include a progressive cavity pump. The progressive cavity pump may be integrated into a handle assembly or a distal end of a catheter and may be drive by a motor activated by a controller. In certain implementations, the controller may be configured to activate the motor to generate a pulsatile vacuum using the progressive cavity pump. To facilitate activation of the motor by the controller, the device may further include a pressure sensor configured to measure pressure distal the progressive cavity pump.

Abstract: Systems and methods of virtual reality (VR) may be used with Cognitive Therapy (CT) to help people experiencing mental health issues stemming from, e.g., automatic thoughts and associated feelings. VRCT can immerse a patient in a virtual world and allow a patient's avatar to interact with virtual, non-playable characters, to reduce reliance on live therapists and improve availability and engagement. Patients may virtually meet with an avatar of a virtual therapist, who will guide a patient to recognize intense negative and/or automatic thoughts about a situation and work towards a more realistic response to the situation. A therapist avatar communicating in a VR world may prompt a patient to discuss a recent situation associated with strong thoughts and emotions in order to help the patient, e.g., catch one or more automatic thoughts, check the accuracy of the automatic thoughts, and change the automatic thoughts to something more accurate and/or less intense.

Abstract: A catheter for use in a subject's vasculature includes a rotating and axially movable instrument. The instrument includes a rounded element at its distal end connected to a body having a spiral shape. The instrument is at least partially disposed in a lumen of the catheter and is configured for axial and rotational motion within the lumen between a proximal-most position and a distal-most position, where the body includes at least one edge configured to promote removal of a target substance from the body passageway upon contact with the target substance.

Abstract: A system and method that can automatically select a frequency of a magnetic field in a magnetic tracking system. A magnetic tracking system emits an alternating magnetic field using a set of three frequencies. In the present approach, a transmitter is capable of generating multiple sets of three frequencies. A processor selects a first set of frequencies to use and causes the receiver to measure the amplitude of the magnetic field at those frequencies. In one embodiment, the frequency set having the lowest energy is selected. The processor then compares an estimated jitter at those frequencies to the actual jitter experienced using the frequencies. If the actual jitter exceeds the estimated jitter by a predetermined amount, the processor switches to a different set of frequencies and causes the receiver to measure the magnetic field at the new set of frequencies. The process may repeat using the additional sets of frequencies.
